| I have made the decision of staying at my hagwon for another year, but I am just curious about how one goes about becoming a public school teacher. I am thinking that after the next year in my hagwon, I want to try someplace new. Do I need certification to teach in a public school here? I have a BA in English Lit. I would appreciate any information I can get. Thanks |

No but a CELTA or equivalent TESOL kind of certificate can earn you a higher starter salary with the pay scales used these days. And the CELTA is very good for teaching how to be effective with groups.
Several recruiters advertise many public school positions, and there's plenty of demand. Plan to be contract-free and ready to work at a public school by March (or April in some cases) and you'll find plenty of opportunities.
Any old degree wil do. They aren't picky. |

CELTA is a bonus both in pay and for you as a teacher (if you do it in a good school of course!).
As for becoming a PS teacher...I suggest you just apply to schools during hiring season (January or early summer). |

go there to find more info for teaching in Seoul.
If you apply next year, you will have 2 years of experience, so I believe you will make about 2.2 with a public school. If you take a TESOL or CELTA course with at least 100 hours, i think you'll get bumped up to 2.4 or 2.5 per month. |
