Ok, I was pretty ambivalent to the shite that SBS got away with in the Senegal game the ohter night, not showing goals etc. Nationalism is part of football and Koreans do it as well as any other country. However, I was watching the game last night, including the pre match build up and was a little disturbed by the coverage. Firstly, the lineup of the Korean team was shown at least 3 times prior to kickoff, with formation and strategy agonized over for at least 5-10 minutes. Fair enough, did they do the same for the Bosnian team? No, they gave a quick rundown for around 90 seconds just before the whistle was blown. Last time I checked, football was a game played by two teams . Secondly, during the Bosnian national anthem, MBC cut away from the players standing hand-on-heart to footage of the Bosnian war!! I was like "WTF?!!!" I know your average Joe Kim or Bob Park probably couldn't locate Bosnia on a map, even if you offered him a case of kimchi flavoured soju for getting it right, but I thought it was a bit insulting to give a potted history of the country at that point. Maybe they should have shown clips of the Korean war during the Korean national anthem too. Finally, by the fireworks and triumphalist wagnerian classical durge at the end, one could have sworn they won the bloody cup and not just beat a team who finished a distant third in their qualifying group.
That aside, I thought it was an interesting match, maybe a tad one sided at times, but the Koreans played with pace and the odd bit of flair. |

Yeah, I thought that was might odd as well. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the fact it was their last match on Korean soil, and they were getting a send off with bravado. |

The media is being very unhelpful by raising expectations too much. With their squad and difficult group getting to the 2nd round would be a great achievment for Korea......however the've been hyped up so much the public might consider it a disapointment. |

At least the coffee shops and restaurants got to deploy their newly
purchased projections screens. I thought these two boys were gonna
hurt themselves! |

They played better than they did against Senegal but then again they had a stronger team. Your man missed a sitter at the end. Miss kicked it in front of goal with only the keeper to beat.... |
