I'd appreciate it if anyone could clear this up for me.

I'm leaving Incheon to travel to Wellington through Sydney next month flying Qantas.Qantas doesn't have a desk at Incheon,so it's handled through Asiana.

I've had conflicting information.

My wife bought the tickets through a travel agent in Seoul who told her we'd be issued boarding passes at Incheon,so we'd merely have to go from exiting gate to new gate. That would seem simple enough.

An Asiana rep however told us on the phone we'd have to pick up FRESH boarding passes for Wellington. Those are done at the ticket counter...which would surely mean we'd have to go through customs. My wife's visa is for NZ,not Aussie, making that impossible.

Is there a check in counter within the transit area of Sydney airport?

I have the feeling the Asiana rep had no idea what she was talking about.

Could anyone confirm the process for boarding to Wellington from Sydney airport please

Many thanks in advance

Cheers~~

you will get your boarding passes at incheon for your whole flight.
if sydney is only a transit then you wont have to clear customs
the girl has no idea what she is talking about.. maybe English problem?
your tickets have been paid for incheon-wellington via Sydney
so check in knows that and will issue you everything in INcheon
of course dont take my word for it.. but logically that how it works and has worked that way for me everytime..

Cheers,

It just didn't make any sense to me.

I didn't personally purchase the tickets, but when I bought a ticket before Incheon-HK-BKK-Brisbane 4 years ago I believe I had boarding passes for the whole duration sorted from the get-go ie Incheon

She did mention getting priority luggage, probably ought to do that.

The reps English was fine.Is Sydney-Wellers treated as a "domestic" flight?

No. You just go through transit and to your gate. Clear passport at WLG

Hi,

I am from Wellington and have done this flight many times. What happens is one of two things.
1. You sometimes get a boarding pass for your flight from Sydney to Wellington which 100% of the time in my cases I have had to change at the gate in Sydney for a new boarding pass. No problems they just call your name over the intercom and you go up and get a new one.
2. You just go to the Transfer desk which is in the transit area and get you boarding pass for your Syndey - Wellington flight from there.

Very easy and have had no problems.

Hope that helps

If you are staying on a plane for the same airline for the entire journey you will not need to pick up boarding passes.

If you are changing airlines (meaning there is a codeshare in place), you will need new boarding passes.

This is the same anywhere in the world, and something us residents of the Southern Hemisphere have to get used to. For example, flying to or from Europe. If I book, say, Finnair, their aeroplanes do not fly into Australia. So I am flying on a different airline to Asia and then changing onto Finnair. Because I do not board a Finnair flight until Hong Kong (or wherever), I cannot get the boarding pass until then.

End result was I had to pick up fresh boarding passes at Sydney, which were given to me by a Qantas rep as soon as I got off the plane, then had to run to the next plane as I'd been delayed in Incheon.

Even with priority baggage, still had to wait until the following night to get my suitcase.

Tickets were about 1 million won each.Got through quickly, but not stress free
