I'm considering cutting off my hair. I've had long hair for well over ten years, and as it's so fine there's not many cuts you can do with it outside of the blunt cut.

Though it's a pain the ass most of the time, I do love having long hair. I can do cute hair styles with it and bad hair days = ponytails. However I'm starting to feel that perhaps my features would be better complimented with a shorter cut. But going from mid-back to above the chin is scary.

So for those who have done the big chop did you love it or regret it?

Shave it all off. You'll save hours of your life every year that would've been spent washing, combing, and cutting it.

Go for it. Short hair frames a face nicely. Just get it done at a decent place. I second the Aveda recommendation.

You might notice all the advice for short hair has come from other women. . .

Assuming you want the cut to look as attractive to as many men (just a guess) as possible, don't cut your hair.

The vast majority of men I know prefer women with long hair.

I normally hate having my hair short - when I was a kid my mother wouldn't let me grow my hair, it was really curly and painful to brush and keep tidy so she said until I could be trusted to brush it ever day I wasn't getting long hair , I love my hair long because when I take the time to groom it, it can look absolutely stunning and I hate going short because it then generally grows out, almost like an afro - it's scary. I've cut it a few times and regretted it. Although thats just my hair, thick, unruly and only controllable when it can be tied up. I say go for the cut if you want, it suits a lot of people (just not me) and the best thing is, if you don't like it, it grows back

Like the beav said most men like it long. Actually I'm getting hot just typing about long hair. But, short hair can also be hot. See ya.

The problem is that my hair is really, really fine. So I can't layer it much at all. And combined with the highlights and lack of product it's been a bit of a battle to keep it looking nice.

I still don't know if I'm ready for short hair yet. And while men may love it, I think a good short cut might be better than a long cut that looks messy.

Every time I want to cut my hair, I always think to myself, "Yep, I know guys like the long hair...." and yes I am currently single. If I wasn't, I don't know that I'd care. My hair was a thick tangled mass each morning when long when long. IMO, features are more attractive when it is short.

Now, I'd love to have a bit more male attention, but I really love the 5 minutes and your done hair cut. I always start to grow it out with the intention of having it long, can't take it out anymore, chop it off, feel a bit self conscious for a couple of weeks and then love it. Wash, rinse, repeat the cycle. Honestly, though, I guess I figure if a guy is going to find me attractive, he's going to think so no matter how long my hair is. Guys, please tell me if this is a wrong assumption!

I am a bit nervous about having short hair when I arrive in Korea, but I am who I am and it won't be long by August. CLG, I hope you find a style you love.

Rather liked the change and ended up getting it cut even shorter.

Having moved to a very gendered society and given my current job I'd say I probably made the right decision.

Do they have hair extensions readilly available over there? I mean of a light enough shade that you could dye them to match your natural colour? If so, they might give the illusion of thickening up your hair. High maintenace but Ive seen a lot of nice extensions lately.

My hair is long and thick, so especially in the summer, it used to get bushy ande frizzy...until I got a magic straight perm. At first, my Dad actually thought I got my hair thinned out. A magic perm is the BEST thing to say bye bye to the frizzies!
