I taught preschool off and on for about 7 years. I have a lot of experience with children up to age 5. Will this benefit me at all when I apply for teaching jobs in Korea? |

If you have references for it and like working with kids... it will go a long way in a kindy hakwon. I can recommend a couple if you want to cold call them with your resume. |

Thanks. I know some people hate kindy, but I like kids and I don't mind working with the younger ones. I thought I would probably start with younger kids because I have experience with them and this will be my first "professional" teaching job. |

I had only ever worked in a kindy before I came to Korea, yet I managed to land a university job as my first job here. You don't need to set your sights on kindy only in Korea. Go for whatever age group you want. |

I would hesitate to say that you are looking for your first 'professional' experience after 7 years teaching preschoolers. Preschool level has just as much value as any other age level, if not more. If young kids is what you're after, there are 1000s of jobs waiting for you here. |

I agree with you. I used italics because teachers here aren't considered professionals unless they have a teaching license. I treated teaching preschool as a professional job even though the pay was sh*t and I had no benefits. It is also a very underrated profession. Preschool teachers rarely get the respect they deserve, even from the parents of some of the little monsters-oops, I meant darlings-that they teach. No bitterness here. I think I can teach any age group but I'm still fond of the little ones. |
