I bought this Korean language study book that came with a CD. I wanted to put the CD contents onto my ipod so I could study when on the go. I put it in and began transferring the songs into a playlist when BOOM! this blue screen appeared:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows upsates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.
Technical information:
***stop: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80545FF0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)
Beginning dump of physical memory"
I tried to restart my computer but nothing happened no matter what buttons I pushed (Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Esc, or main power button). I have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP! Thank you in advance! |

I tried the power button (its a laptop) but maybe I didn't hold it down long enough. I pulled the power plub to let the battery drain because the laptop was running hotter than normal, yet there was no apparent hard drive activity, |

ah HA! It's a laptop (wish you would have told me sooner). Laptops tend to overheat a lot if you don't ventilate it well. Take 4 pieces of paper and fold them up. Then place them under the laptop at the corners. This will ventilate the bottom of it. You want it to where the laptop has a space between itself and the desk. Let your pc cool down. Then turn it back on. MAKE SURE TO RAISE THE LAPTOP ABOVE THE DESK. This should allieviate the problem. |

Do you really think that was the problem? The blue screen appeared while this cd was putting songs onto a playlist. The laptop was quite warm (more so than usual) and since I couldn't shut down or restart I unplugged it to let the batteries drain so that it could cool down. I keep my laptop on a hard table surface so it is elevated as much as the little rubber things at the bottom allow it to be but that still may not be high enough. I've had it for 2 years now and I've never seen this screen before so I'm kind of panicked as I rely on my computer for many things. |

Firstly, never let the power run out of your pc completely. It's bad for the battery.
Secondly, it's either a ipod driver issue or a itunes issue. What operating system are you running ? Go to the itunes website and upgrade to whatever latest itunes software they have.
If you can reboot your computer, then just upgrade and work away as before. If you can't reboot your computer then you'll need to go into safe mode (press F8 on reboot) and uninstall itunes. Then reboot again and just reinstall itunes again.
If you are running a really old OS, or you have a very old computer then it might be a persistant error. Otherwise, just grab the updates and everything should work out fine ... |

Firmly, I do. Our laptop had the same problem. Do so and let me know what happens. I would also listen to the poster above. Watch the old OS's. |

There might be compatibility issues with the software. I have experienced in the past that some software is non compatible with XP and Windows was unable to validate it. I always got that message when this was the case. |
