Well...I wanted to take pictures of me and my students together. I was doing them in sets of boys and girls. We were getting ready to take the picture with the boys and I asked one of my responsible girl students to take the picture. After taking the picture she went to hand me the camera. She had thought that I had grabbed the camera (she forgot to remove the string from her wrist). I barely had a grip on it. So she turned around quickly and began to run. Well....needless to say...SPLAT!!!! I tried fixing it to no avail. I am going to take it to a shop to see if they can fix it. If they can't, I am off to buy a new one. Any ideas or recommendations? Here is what I am looking for:
Preferably (sp?) nikon
Battery = li-ion
Price = less than $250
I am not a professional photographer. I use it to take pictures when I am on vacation. Any advice from you guys would be great. For those that may ask, "why don't you have her pay for it?", here is my answer:
It was an accident.  |

That's why my next-to-newest digital camera is always the "at school" one. |

Don't know about your brand, but..
I have a Sony camera of some sort. Anyway, about, say, 4 days after I bought it i took it to the beach, then climbed up on some rocks and dropped it. It was still cool but kinda scratched. About 18hrs later I was on a different beach, filled it up with sand and somehow bashed it around and broke the focussing. Dunno what happened, I was drunk and don't remember..
Anyway I happened to notice a Sony service centre near to where I lived.
I was prepared to pay some money to get it fixed since it was entirely my fault.. I rocked up there, jabbered in my broken Korean for a while, and the lady working there told me they'd fix it for free and have it back in 2 days. I kinda didn't believe her and thought I'd misunderstood. Went back a coupla days later.. they'd cleaned the sand out, fixed the problem (wouldn't focus at all).. and it was all free..
Maybe your camera company/service center is that generous too. Take it back to the shop and see what they say.. I was mad happy with the service I got. |

Thanks for the FYI. I called up Nikon in Korea and they refused to fix my camera. Because I purchased the Camera from The US., Nikon would not fix it in Korea. I would have to send it to The States. I bought a new one this weekend as a birthday gift to me. I bought a Nikon Coolpix S2. It' s a sweet little camera. 5.1megapixels, splashproof, etc. All kinds of load-ons from Yongsan for $260. I'm happy.
Turns out the family of my student feels bad and have asked me to give them the broken camera so that they may try and have it fixed. I said sure and handed them the camera. If I get it repaired (Nikon Coolpix 775) I will sell it on here for cheap. We'll see if it comes back working or not. |

Anyone ever go to the electronic shops around Namdaemoon? They apparently sell smuggled cameras, avoiding the high import duties. My GF was pricing a camera at Technomart (M10 Pentax) It was $270 at Technomart but about $230 at Namdaemoon. The downside is there's no warranty. If you're not going to be in Korea forever, ie you're a teacher, may as well. |
