|
|
Ok, so I'm thinking about taking my hubby to Seoul for his birthday and I need to know three things....
1)Where do I find meat pies there? I remember someone mentioning them in a thread eons ago (maybe apujeoung, or something like that).
2)There used to be a really good blues/jazz bar in Itaewon (yes, in Itaewon) with this awesome Korean band played all alot of Dire Straits. I think it was called "The Blues Club". Does anyone know if its still there? It was on the main drag, up from Geckos.
3)I would love to find a 'nice' love hotel with jacuzzi or something like that and what not. Any ideas? Preferably near Insadong, but we're easy!
Thanks a bundle if anyone can help me out!!

Evans in HongDae is famous for live jazz.
"The Blues Club'.. was this quite awhile ago in Itaewon? They use to have one that was somewhat famous years ago.. but long gone now. Or is this a new one? |

Meat pies: It's called Bondi Meat Pie Shop and yes, it's in Apgujeong. There's a thread on here somewhere. Hope the search function works for you.
Love Hotel: I am not sure as I have never been there, but there is a new hotel by Yeongdeungpo Station called "Lifestyle Hotel". I've heard it's pricey for a love hotel, but has a load of luxurious stuff, like jacuzzi. I always see it when I am taking the train home south from Seoul; it's very big. |

Oh yeah.. thats long gone then. I remember that. Great club.. too bad it closed down. Can't think of anything thats really replaced that venue either.
I have been to Evans in HongDae.. not in the same callibre in my opinion. Well, its not as bluesy or as big as that old one in Itaewon. Its much more live jazz than anything. Its quite relaxed.. a bit smaller.. fans of live jazz love Evans though. It definetely hits its niche well.
I'm not a huge fan of jazz myself.. so doesn't have the same resonance with me. I liked that old blues bar in Itaewon though. |

IMHO the meat pies at Bondi's are a waste of time, especially if you are craving a taste of a good pie from home. They aren't that great, and the atmosphere is kind of like popping into an English bakery and grabbing your pie to eat as you walk down the street...not a dinner place.
Anyway it's located on the main street that seperates Apgujeong from Cheongdam, that runs south between the two Galleria buildings. Head south towards California Fitness and it's across the street.
As for the love hotels, the Herb Hotel has been suggested on here many times, and when I followed the suggestions to try it out, I was NOT disappointed. Search here as I can't remember the subway stop, it's close to Yangjae and the Express Bus Terminal. About 80 - 100,000 per night, big rooms with huge jacuzzis. Well worth it for a night to relax.
Have fun! |

There is still a jazz bar in Itaewon on the second floor, sorry, I don't know the name or where it is. It is pretty good!!
LOVE MOTEL: There is a motel called MONG (sorry I don't have the Hangul in my computer), it is off the big street Jongro in Insadong area. It is awesome and it is only 65,ooo won!!! If you are coming from Insadong you have to cross the street and turn right go one or two blocks and turn left, then look around for it. It is in those little streets behind the big main street) Ask around as well, the motel is great. and yes, there is a jacuuzi. |

Thanks everyone!!
That MONG place sounds ideal - as its the area I was hoping to stay in.
And I really hope that is the right jazz bar!! That would make for the ideal weekend!!!
Anything going on in Seoul the weekend of the tenth that we should know about? Plays, concerts, etc....??
Thanks again guys! |
