I know I read a thread about the best banks to use in Korea. But, I've been searching for about a half-hour with no luck. I also remembered it included informations about asking for what I think was called an "international card" which works at ATMs.
Also, I am curious what documents you need. I have my E-2 Visa but not my ARC. Is this enough? In addition, what bank is best for transfers back home to Canada. I believe people were saying KB is good...
Please help, I'd love to hear some input and find that lost thread!
I'm in Ilasn BTW. Anywone else out here? I am new to everything here, just curious about cool things to do. I am at the end of the orange line (Daewha). |

The Banking and related information FAQ is here:

You need your PASSPORT or your ARC to open an account.
You need your PASSPORT to send money out of the country.
KEB is probably the least hassle for sending money but any bank with an international desk or Foreign Exchange desk can do it for you.
KB* is the Western Union agent in Korea. They will often try to get you to use that service instead of bank wire. They are not the same.
I got my international ATM card a while ago and have heard that some people were told that they couldn't have one.
The best thing to do is get your domestic card when you open the account and after a month or two go back and tell them you are going on a holiday and you would like an international card to access your money while you are abroad. They tend to be much easier to deal with this way and MORE likely to agree to your request with a minimum of problems. |
