Sounds like a typical subcontracted afterschool program. Hard to tell with all the information you gave. |

This is a standard 'afterschool program'. The variable pay is down to qualifications/experience. Also, the school you are going to work for is actually paying double that amount, but your recruiter will syphon off half through the mysterious double bank account process. Otherwise, some reports of afterschool programs have been okay. |

Details. Need details. Hello?
Probably no housing. That would be one deal breaker. No ARC either. Not sure. No details. |

It's not the case with all of them (ie/ different after school programs), I have several friends who work for them, and all but one need to show up only in time for their first class, the other must arrive 45 minutes before, for prep.
I think the reason why the pay seems high for the hours is because the people in charge know that they need to offer a salary that is pretty much the same as what other places of employment offer (2.0 range) or the jobs would simply be left vacant. Some of them don't provide housing and that's an easy way to save some of the cost (even if they are giving 300 - 400,000 won as a housing allowance, there is still the lack of key money. And, to be honest, 400,000 doesn't really cover monthly rent unless a very large deposit is put down, so they are saving another 100-200,000 there).
Provided they get a decent number of students, the program is still profitable for the company running it. And, if company running the afterschool program has had some success in it in previous years, it can be good.
Yes, there is the shifty bank account situtation, but there doesn't seem to be any way around this, due to the regulation that a public school can not make a private contract with a company, but can with a teacher. However, I don't personally feel that this is any riskier than in any other situation -- if the guy isn't going to pay you, well, he is the kind of guy who wouldn't have paid you regardless of where his profits were deposited. |
