PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.....
It is YBM....
CHECK with MORE than one current teacher about the school.

Get their e-mails. Ask them SPECIFIC questions.
Regret your decision if you don't.
There is a shortage of teachers right now. GOOD hakwans re-up their teachers whenever they can. Others are moving to the public system. IT may have it's problems but pay, pension, medical and taxes are not among them.
CRAP hagwons who routinely lie, cheat, and short-change their staff are suffering to get ANY warm body then can.
YBM, SLA, SLP, DING-DANG-DONG, KEC, WONDERLAND, they are all over the place and they are ALL recruiting. They can't operate without a warm body to sell to the parents. CHECK with MORE than one current teacher about the school you are considering. If you get ANY hint that they fail to pay anything that they should or are even a bit slick about the contract terms... keep looking.
10,000 hakwons looking for staff. 1000 more public schools seeking their 1st foreign teacher this year. 6000 teachers willing to come over.
Do the math and DON"T settle for a crap job in a money (but not for you) factory.
There are lots of decent jobs... take the time to sift the grain from the chaff. Your time here in Korea will be MUCH better and way more enjoyable if you do.
If you don't you will join the ranks of the burnouts who hate Korea cause they made the mistake of settling for the 1st crap job that came along and then had to listen to their friends talk about the good jobs that their friends had for the next year. |

| Thanks for your advice. In all fairness, this is about the 10th crap job that has been offered. |

Please, let me state, NOT ALL CHAIN SCHOOLS ARE CRAP.
Most are but in all fairness not all are.
That is why I rant and rave for people to CHECK with current staff before they make a decision.
This is a very competitive business but for hakwons, it is a business.Money is the bottom line and they are in in for a profit.
The only way you can ensure a good time (as compared to bad time) here is CHECK with the CURRENT staff at your PARTICULAR chain branch.
Then you can make an INFORMED and educated decision about your life for the next year. |
