that there are 4 seasons in Korea! (As if any foreigner didn't know such basic information before coming here)
These are "conversation enders" for foreigners because once you hear them you're bound to answer "That's nice Mr. Kim! Gotta go now. See you!"
Please add other things you wish they'd stop telling you.

I've started saying there are five seasons in Korea.
I don't know about conversation enders with Koreans, but I have a bunch picked out for foreigners. |

Just look around this board. Most of them are somewhere in here. Look for threads with over six pages. |

I remember in high school having a competition with friends to see who could come up with the best conversation stopper. Break this out when you want to stop a conversation and never want the person to speak to you again:
them: "hey how about the local sports teams eh?"
me: "umm..yeah"
them: "so back in blah blah we have 4 seasons eh...turns out it's the same in Korea...what do ya think about that?"
me: "One time my friend lent his favourite t-shirt to me and asked for it back. I couldn't find it anywhere so I asked me dad if he had seen it. He told me that it was in his bedroom so I went and retrieved it. When I picked it up, I noticed that it was kind of crusty in some parts. I asked my dad why this was and he replied, "son, sometimes your father has needs." |

The biggest problem is this is that they're wrong...really there is a cold season and a bloody hot season with 3 week transitions in between. While these two transition periods are the only beautiful times of the year, to call them each a season is really stretching it. |

I`m 6'8 and have been getting it all my life, not just here, but in Australia, the UK, Thailand and Greece where I have lived and in the 20 odd other countries I've travelled to. Back home some dropkick will invariably come up to me in the pub and say "f#ck me, you're a big C$#@!" Its as much a conversation ender there as it is here. |

Wow, you two are very...
Okay, this isn't an "I wish they'd stop telling me...", or even an "I wish they'd stop asking me..." Just a "This ought to be mildly stupid" idea.
I kept getting asked my height when I first got here back in the Bronze Age (despite almost never hearing it in generally shorter Hong Kong). So when my employer left it to me to get new business cards printed up, I had them do it right:
Jongno P. Guru
Majordomo
192cm
And yes, precisely what that measurement refers to did inspire much excellent silliness amongst the girls on our room salon excursions. |

dont remember being told about the four seasons yet, if I was then it obviously went over my head.
What I wish would stop is all the questions about what I eat and questions about whether I'm on a diet. Just because I only eat one bowl of rice and am not fond of all their spicy vegetable/weeds side dishes doesn't mean that I am on a diet. There is only so much plain white rice I can eat in one sitting. Stop badgering me about it! |
