My recruiter wants me to send in my contract, passport pics, etc through fedex express. It's gonna cost me about 62 bucks. Is this typical? My job is starting soon so i know why they want it express and for getting a job there has to be sacrifices--wondering if there's a better way. |

-Best way is use an embassy certified copy of your degree instead of the original and send it via regular post. Time frame is about 7-10 days.
-You can use a faster service like EMS and get 7 day service.
-You can use the most expensive service like FEDEX and still only get 7 day service.
They will NOT give you overnight service in spite of their claims.
The hakwon may be in a rush (they only knew a year ago that they needed a replacement but they left it to the last minute) and the time difference bwtween post and courier is only a couple days.
If you are sending originals (bad idea but your choice), then use a trackable service like EMS.
DON"T let them rush you into anything...Not now or ever... |

I used UPS because they have tracking... it cost about $55
it's pricey, but with important documents (even notarized degrees are precious), it's more than worth the price.
especially considering you can track the package in case it gets lost. I sent my package out on Friday and it got to the hagwan today... a total of 3 business days approximately. I would imagine it should be around that number for any location in North America.
don't really know where you're getting the 7 business days ttom?
also, I don't think it's a matter of being rushed, it's a matter of getting your papers in order asap so that, if there are problems, they can be dealt with right away. |

If there's no big rush, send it regular mail but whatever you do
NEVER, I repeat NEVER EVER send your official documents such as your passport or original degree. If they even ask you to send those and keep pressuring you.... tell them to go to Japan. They'll know what you are talking about. |

I recently received a package from my mother in NYC. She mailed it on a Monday and I received it Friday morning. You can also send it express with the post office. |

If you send your original be prepared for them to tell you after you get here that they are not going to give it back until you complete the contract.
Some school's will not ever even issue you another diploma if you lose your original; they will just give you a certification letter or what not.
Send a certified copy from the consulate. What's one more week of waiting for it to be processed? Better than being held captive for a year. |
