If the school requries a medical test and tells you to pay for it, what do you do?
Suck it up and pay for it, its only 50,000 won.

Stand your ground and refuse to pay for things that you were not told about when hired.

I have worked at my school for 2 months already and today they called me to tell me that a prerequiste for hiring is to take a medical exam. Hence I am now required to take the medical exam and pay for it myself. After pointing out that this was not in my contract I refused to pay for it although I said I would take the test. They told me that they would refuse to pay me until I paid for and took the medical test. So what does everyone else do when forced to pay for something not in thier contract?

As much as it's a pain, better to not create any level on animosity 2 months into a contract. In this instance, get it done and get on with finishing the contract. Smile

I agree with sadsac here...just pay and avoid yourself a useless confrontation....

Or dig a fox-hole and wait it out knowing they can probably replace you while you are protesting and then fire you....

It is frustrating but its a cost vs reward thing here....how much will it cost you to get them to pay for the test (if in fact they end up paying?) and what will you have gained besides the ill-will of your employer?

Yep. This is a minor issue. You may have bigger ones down the road...or maybe not! Having the good-will of your employer is a BIG plus...and worth the 50,000. And at least you'll know that you're healthy!

Yeah, go ahead and get the test done. It's better to have insurance. National health insurance. Get it done at one of the larger hospitals. Get it done yourself. The cost should be around 35Gs, not 50. You do, however, have a bit of a point about arguing about it because it wasn't in your contract. Keep an eye on 'em. Make sure that they're deducting the appropriate amts for pension and tax as well.

Happily before I even had a chance to approach them about it again, they called me to say they would pay for it. They took me there and did all the translations and paid for it themselves. So I have a newfound confidence in my school's respect for me.
