Just finished a grade 1 middle school demo class. It went pretty well overall. The lesson's topic was "how often" and it consisted of a warm-up activity, langauge review, interview speaking exercise, and a quick game.

The one complaint was that the lesson was a little monotonous and not dynamic enough. I guess the evaluator wants to see more flash ie. computer stuff, powerpoint.
I've tried in past classes but it's worked to varying degrees. I seem to have problems finding cohesion between the flashy stuff and the language activities and stuff. Also, when I use powerpoint or other things, my lessons get way too teacher centered.

I could use any helpful advice. thanks.

Who was the evaluator and is his opinion even worth taking into consideration? Employing A/V technology for at least a small portion of the lesson is great - IF it works - but I'd be careful how seriously I'd take any Korean's opinon on teaching conversational English into consideration.

The evaluator is a high school English teacher who is in charge of evaluations for Gyeonggi-Do.

I think I'm not effective when it comes to incoporating AV. It's different when all the AV stuff is provided for you as part of the curriculum on CD-ROM

if it was the same biatch who was "evaluating" at a demo I recently observed.

Bloody clueless, she was. Ragged the poor teachers out, her comments being that the Korean co-teacher should be the focus. She also was peeved that they didn't follow the lesson plan exactly. It's true; we all had a copy. But they did extremely well, had all the bells and whistles...who follows lesson plans to the t? It's like going to a live play with the friggin script and waiting for an actor to slip up.

When the woman sensed that some people felt uneasy about her comments she played the old "my English is not so good; I don't know how to say it well" card. Cop out. Then what the frig are you doing evaluating if you yourself struggle to get your ideas across? Of course I didn't say that... Wink

Just smile and continue doing your best. Smile
