I have my Florida driver's license here with me. No, I do not have an international driver's license. |

Take your US licence, your ARC, your passport, 10,000 won and 2 passport type photos (maybe 3, it's been a long time) and pop down to your local drivers licence center.
It takes about an hour to process.
Take a translator with you to make life easy if you want. |

Thanks ttompatz. I gotta get mine soon, too. Do you know if there's a test involved? |

IF you have a drivers licence from home, the only test is the "Medical" test that they do in the office. This consisted of 3 deep knee bends and a quick eye test for me.
What happened when I got mine was:
-They made copies of my Licence from home, ARC and Passport information page.
-They took the photographs, an application form that was filled out at the counter and my 10,000 won.
-I went into a side office for the "medical test".
-I waited about 1 hour for the processing and it was done.
I received my nice, shiny, new licence and was on my way home. Quick and easy. |

If you learn to: become hopelessly incompetent at backing up, constantly 'lean' on your horn, drive on sidewalks, run red lights, make illegal U-turns and how to 'floor it' to make a left-hand turn from the far, right-hand lane in front of straight thru traffic in your direction and before oncoming traffic can enter the intersection, you'll fit right in. |

If you're Canadian, no. If you're American, yes, there is a 20 question or so written test (unless they've changed the law since last Spring).
Americans may also have to make 2 trips to the licensing office: 1 to initiate paperwork, and a 2nd to actually take the test & pick up the license. I've heard of some folks doing it all in 1 go, but many others have had to go twice. |
