I just kicked off a new gig at an elementary school and have been given my very own classroom to do with as i please. I need some advice on setting up a study conjusive environment (hereafter to be reffered to as SCE). It's pretty bland at the mo, the korean teachers have made an effort but i'm thinking i would like to funk it up a bit for the kids.
What do you have going on in your pad?, where can i get some cool posters and stuff. Do you have any ideas regarding how I can make things less stale?. My class is mine alone so obviously everythings going to be in englishee but tracking down good posters and other knick knacks may be a little tough over here so if you know where I can track stuff down then give me the downlow. Cheers!

| In Japan I used to take my photographs of home, travels etc. and blow them up in colour for really cheap at the local convenience store (there are a few things in Japan that are abnormally cheap, but just a few!). I haven't seen the same neighbourhood cheapy colour photocopiers here but it's worth a look. Also, tourism agencies are usually happy to send a tonne of promotional material for their country if you write to them. I've asked for posters a couple of times and received some cool pin-ups. |

| I would also recommend having the students involved. They can make English posters and stuff, you could have some lessons where they produce things to decorate the room. One of my classrooms right now has the walls covered in recipes the kids came up with. |

| We don't have time during my class to do any major art projects. However, the Korean teachers decided to use some of the homeroom time to do some stuff. The grade 1 students wrote letters to me and decorated the letters. The grade 2 students made colorful posters about English speaking countries. The grade 3 students made posters about English holidays. They've jazzed the room up quite a bit. |

Don't know what your budget is... or what support you get from your principal or local school board... but here are some pics of our English Room. This is in a Public Elementary School.

The whiteboard at the front of the room is actually an interactive touchpad connected to the computer and a projection TV.
I hope it can give you a few ideas.

Sorry guys... I up loaded hi-rez pics for the OP and didn't expect the rush...
(kick my azz Embarassed cause I should have known better) Wink .

Total size of the combined pics = about 1 meg.

The rest of the pics were from me standing in the center of the room and shooting out toward the walls in a panoramic style.
I'm not saying it is the cat's meow or the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it works for us.
It is a bit on the high budget side but allows us to utilize the space much like our own "English Village" for role playing here at our school.
The whiteboard at the front of the room is actually an interactive touchpad connected to the computer and a projection TV. This allows us better use of the CD's that come with the provincial texts and we can suppliment those with our own powerpoint, Word or other presentations. We can also use the DV cam to create our own stuff from roll-plays and then critique them as a class project in the afterschool programs.
The rest is just window dressing. The blinds and curtains have pics on them with the English words written next to the pics, like a childrens "my-1st-words-book".
If this gives anyone some ideas to help improve their own space, then all the power to you. |
