I've had my deep fryer for a few months now and the oil is really really black. waht is the best way to dispose of this oil? I know I could just poor it in a bottle and tank it with the rest of the trash, but that doesn't seem right. |

You can put it in a zip -loc bag, and then put it in your reg. garbage bag. Or pour it in a reg plastic bag, double it, and then knot it, or twist tie it closed, and put that in a reg. trash bag. OR dump it into an empty milk carton and put THAT in a trash bag.
You can also mix dish washing liquid and water in with it, and flush it down the toilet. The plumbing is quite bad here, so I would go with the bag and the garbage bit. |

Many apartment complexes have a disposal drum near their regular garbage disposal. It is usually a 44 gallon drum with a funnel in the top. Disposing of that quantity of oil by flushing it down the toilet even with detergent would be pretty irresponsible. |

Totally. But have the locals groked the idea of pollution and personal responsibility? Just coming back to my apartment I saw some young guy walk by a garbage can. Instead of throwing his gum wrapper into the can, he just tossed it onto the ground. Sunday I saw some young guy trying to impress his GF with his ability to dump his garbage through a sewer's grates...
Do Koreans get any kind of anti-pollution messages/education in school or via Saturday morning cartoons? I mean the bulk of my childhood was being bombarded with messages not to:
a) litter... "give a hoot", crying indian, etc
b) take LSD because after a hit of blotter you'll think you can fly like a bird and try and jump off your apartment balcony... |

If you are a Korean, dump it in the Han. That's what the locals do. |

Hey, didnt you see Shawshank Redemption..........just take a little bottle, fill it up, when you go outside, just pour a little on the ground at a time. After a year the oil will be gone. And you will be in Mexico, well, I think you are TOO nervous. When in Rome.......... |

I use an old can (food, soda, whatever) and let it cool, then throw it out with the rest of the trash. |

Doesn't your place have a recycling barrel with a funnel sticking out for just that? Unless you live in a small villa, there should be one out by the container for food scraps. |

I live in Bundang, in a fairly new Office-tel. We have 2 HUGE bins for garbge that we put in pink bags. We have a place for paper, cardboard, plastic, cans, glass, and styrafoam. We have 6 large plastic barrels for food garbage. (and all the flies that hang around). We have a dumpster for old clothes, a place for discared furniture, and a place for broken items. I walked all around that area twice last night and did not see any place for oil.
I said that I throw out oil in zip loc bags, or milk containers. and I put it with my reg. trash. I so rarely deep fry.
Grotto, has the best idea, but I wonder if he ever did it. (did u?)
So, how does the rest of you dispose oil? Drinking it is not a good idea. But I wouldn't mind feeding it to some of the kids here who think they are so smart..... I could always say "it's an American thing". |

Donate it to Willie Nelson and his cooking oil fueled car. |

If I didn't think it'd screw up my toilet, I'd probably flush it down the pan, to be totally honest. It's not very nice, but it's a quick fix to an annoying small matter. |
