This question is especially for fans who follow European leagues. I saw a commercial the other day (I forget what for) that reminded of something that always bothered me. During the 2002 World Cup when Korea played Portugal, the Korean who scored the goal celebrated initailly by running about with his finger up to his mouth making the "shhhh" gesture. Where I come from, this "shhh" gesture is made when the visiting team scores as a sign that the crowd (which is cheering for the home team, naturally) has just been quieted. Of course, that 2002 match was played right here in Korea, so I didn't understand why a Korean would shush the crowd after scoring. Does the "shhh" sign mean something different in soccer, or perhaps Europe or did the Korean player simply use it incorrectly not knowing the significance of the gesture? |

There's no secret soccer code relating to shhhh. The major flap against the Koreans at that time was that they were winning because Fifa set it up. I think he was just quieting the disbelievers. |

Koreans just copy other people, I don`t think the Korean knows what it is about, he thinks it loks good. Anyway, yes the shhh sign is to shut up the away supporters after scoring a goal. |
