Hey all, new here but i did read through a lot of forum posts. I also tried using the search but i didnt see anything really conclusive on the questions i have. I was wondering

1) Is it common place for a summer/winter camp (3-4 weeks) to only pay you at the end of the contract? While i understand the reasoning on their part, im duely worried whether i would get paid. Which leads me to my second question.

2) What are the odds of not getting paid? Or is that dependant upon the school? I have heard of others not getting paid for a month here, or their severance pay or something or another. I was just curious how "easy" is it to NOT get paid. On the flip side its only 3 weeks so i dont see how they could not pay?

Question not related entirely to summer camp but gaining work in general

3) Usually i see a lot of postings on the ESL forums here for jobs and to contact the schools or certain people through email. While im not expecting an instantaenous reply, i was wondering how common place it is to get an email dialogue going. Usually from what i found so far is that people respond back to one of my emails, and if i email back with a few more questions (usually they attach like a sample contract) i dont get a reply. Is that common place?

Thanks for any advice or insight, greatly appreciated!

First, make sure that you have an E2 visa or that the camp will be added to your visa as a place where you can lawfully work. If you don't have an E2 visa for the camp it will be very easy for them to screw you over, you will be working illegally, and could face nasty consequences.

Secondly, get references. Find out who your visa sponsor will be and get references for that individual.

Thirdly, get it put in the contract that you will get paid at the end of every week. If the employer cannot agree to that, it's probably best to keep looking.

On the same topic of winter and summer camps can anyone recommend some recruiters or especially some camps that arent too bias towards not hiring asians?

Excuse me if i sound the least bit offensive. I have spent a frustrating few months trying to find a summer camp job only to be met with wall upon wall of either no response or getting told that im not really the "oreferred or ideal type of teacher" for certain summer camps......

I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and basically only look Asian in face. I cant even order food in my ethnic language yet still no replies at all.

come on now there must be something thats feasible for me to teach at this summer.

Please make sure you know what you are talking about before giving people advice. Most camps in Korea offer their teachers a C4 visa. This visa is for short term work and allows one to work legally in Korea. Despite that, it would be very easy for a camp to screw a summer teacher since if you are only in Korea for a short time you are not going to stick around to take them to the labor board to fight for your money.

Sorry, I should have widened it to 'work visa'.

Could you describe the process in more detail regarding the labour board and trying to get the money owed to me? Or would you have a forum link to where i can read up more on what i can do if i am not paid?
