Welcome to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Prediction-tastic competition. I'm your host Statto from the EPL Prediction-tastic league and I welcome you to the game!

We'll be running this very similar to the EPL version, but with some small changes due to the different format.

First off, this game is not affiliated, sanctioned by, or sponsored by anyone or anything having to do with this site, FIFA, the World Cup, or anyone else who sounds official and might get an inkling to sue us over this. IT'S ALL FOR FUN!

Here's how it will work...

I'm going to divide the group matches into smaller groups (about 6 matches at a time) and will post them here. You will take the fixture list and post your predictions alongside them (see the example below). You will socre points for each prediction you get right, as defined below.

Scoring - Group Stage

You get 3 points for each correctly predicted winning match.
You get 2 points for each correctly predicted draw.
You get 5 points for each correctly predicted scoreline.

Note: You cannot score more than 5 points for any match in the group stage.

Scoring - Knock-out Stages

You get 3 points for each correctly predicted winning match.
You get 2 points for each correctly predicted full-time draw.
You get 5 points for each correctly predicted scoreline.

Notes: 1) If you predict that the match will end at full-time in a draw, you must also pick who will win aet or shootout.
2) If you pick a draw, and get both the draw and the aet/shootout winner, you can score a maximum of 8 points (5 points for the draw scoreline and 3 points for picking the eventual winner).

BONUS Scores

Befor the kick-off of the first match on 9 June, post group winners for each group, the 2 nations in the final, and who will win it all.

You get 5 points for each correctly predicted group winner.
You get 5 points for each correctly predicted final nation.
You get 10 poins for correctly predicting the World Cup Champion.

Also, you will get a bonus of 10 points if you correctly identify the winner of the Golden Boot before the start of the competition.

Prediction Examples - Group Stage

Friday 9 June
A - Germany - Costa Rica.......2-0 (if the actual score is 2-0, you get 5 points, if Germany wins but not that score, you get 3 poins)
A - Poland - Ecuador..............0-0 (if the actual score is 0-0, you get 5 points, if actual score is a draw, but not 0-0, you get 2 points)

Note: The letter preceding the match indicates what group the match is in.

Prediction Examples - Knock-out Stages

A1 - B2.......3-0 (if the actual score is 3-0, you get 5 points, if A1 wins but not that score, you get 3 points)
C1 - D2.......1-1 (D2) (If FT score is 1-1, you get 5 points for that, and if D2 wins in extra time or shootout, you get 3 points for that for 8 points total. If FT score is draw, but not 1-1, you get 2 points for that and 3 additional points if D2 wins in extra time or shootout.)

STATTO'S NOTE: I know this is getting confusing for the knockout stages, but I'll make it more clear before we get there. It's not as complicated as you are probably thinking.
