Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a problem with buying a one way ticket to Seoul on a tourist visa...Will immigration give me problems because I won't have a ticket that shows I'm leaving Korea? The reason I ask is because I was adopted and I am eligable for an f-4 visa. The agency that has been helping get the papers for the f-4 visa said that they have all the papers in Seoul...She said that all I need to do is go to their office and then they will take me to immigration so that I can get the f-4...From what I've read, you need to show proof that you are indeed leaving the country if you are on a tourist visa...So I guess the real question is, can I buy a one way ticket to Seoul and not have any problems with immigration? Sorry to be so long winded and THANKS for any info!

The problem will come at the check-in counter at the airport.

If you are refused entry in Korea then the airline gets fined and has to send you home at their expense. For that reason the airline will often check to ensure that you either have a visa in your passport or a return/departing ticket. If you don't have a visa or return/departing ticket then the airline will refuse boarding.

The easiest and safest way to ensure trouble free travel is to purchase 2 tickets.

a) Find the best deal you can on your one way ticket to Korea.

b) Then purchase a NON-RESTRICTED, FULLY REFUNDABLE ticket to anywhere departing from Korea within the time frame of your visa waiver period.

Easy to understand terms -

1) buy a refundable one way ticket from Korea to Japan that has a travel date within 30 days of your arrival in Korea.
2) When you get here, cancel and refund Japan ticket.

If you buy it on a credit card then you get your credit in about 3 days. If you paid cash, then you may have to wait up to 1 month for your refund.
