Now before we get any panties in a wad about why I didn't post this in current events....they're all so - serious over there. This is a more light hearted topic. Why, if I had posted this article in that forum, the American CIA would be to blame fo' sho'

Neither of the boy's two left arms is fully functional and tests have so far been unable to determine which was more developed, said Dr. Chen Bochang, head of the orthopedics department at Shanghai Children's Medical Center.
"His case is quite peculiar. We have no record of any child with such a complete third arm," Chen said in a telephone interview. advertisement
The boy, identified only as "Jie-jie," also was born with just one kidney and may have problems that could lead to curvature of the spine, local media reports said. Jie-jie cried when either of his left arms was touched, but smiled and responded normally to other stimuli, the reports said.
Chen said doctors hoped to work out a plan for surgery, but the boy's small size made it impossible to perform certain tests that would help them prepare.
Media reports said other children have been reported born with additional arms and legs, but in those cases it was clear what limb was more developed. Chen's hospital is one of China's most experienced in dealing with unusual birth defects, including separating conjoined twins. |
Remember the kid in India born with two weiners?
They ended up donating the extra to some guy who had had a bad accident. |

so does the third arm work?
if its a full working third arm.. he could do some unique things with it..
still a terrible life to have in a world like this with 3 arms..
im sure they can get rid of the third arm.. |

Just so he'll look normal?!!  Are you Korean? Everyone has to look the same  . How would you feel if someone cut off one of your limbs just so you look normal.
This mutation is just the type of thing many scientists and medical researchers would like to study. Who knows what types of things they could discover from this boy and his fifth limb. The possibilities are limitless. |

Yes, an unfortunate mutation. Maybe it is just a coincidence that he was born in the most polluted country on earth?  |

i'd love to see a radiograph... must be an interesting shoulder joint.... i wonder is it one joint or an extra scapula too? or does the thoracic arm articulate with with something else?

I'm guessing that the upper arm will have a greater chance of becoming functional. Do you oppose surgery to correct cleft palettes? separation of conjoined twins?

Bummer to be born in a place like Shanghai needing 50% more elbow-room from the get-go.
