Now see here.
I'm very sick of reading the cliche "just my two cents" at the end of 79.6% of the posts on this forum. You expect that kind of thing from internet riff-raff generally, but teachers with degrees and education should know better!
It seems to be a North American thing too. We in England don't have cents. They have cents in Australia and New Zealand I think, but these are countries with the British flag on them, thus they're less likely to use tiresome, incredibly repetitive cliches - they're, like, less homogenized I think.
It's quite unnecessary too. It means "just my opinion", right? Well, no *beep* buddy! Just your two cents eh? Do you think readers might think your post is the gospel truth?
We are to have a complete ban on "just my two cents". "Just my 2 won" is unacceptable too. You do not need to tell me your post is your own opinion and not an objective item of fact or knowledge. Usually it's possible to tell. Take heed! |

Hear! Hear!
Hell, my opinion is worth a hell of a lot more than just "two cents" anyway(doesn't anyone pay attention to inflation??)--people should be paying ME for the honor of hearing my opinions on the crucial issues debated here on Dave's.
(Where would you be without knowing everyone else's tastes in bagels???)
So I heartily support Spinza's motion.

Nonsense!!
Humble!?!?!?! And anyone who employs an netacronym is a ponce.
I mean, WTF?
**EDIT**
I just checked: I am the first to use netacronym in this context(it's some sort of software or something though). Anyway, it's MINE.
Puhahahahahahahaha |

I hate you all ... and your little forum.

You are no longer allowed to share your two cents.
That's just my two cents. |

It's also a humble expression, recognizing that one's particular opinion may not carry the weight of professional authority, but it's being presented anyway "for what it's worth" (i.e. like two cents...)
Humility should not be that alien a concept to citizens of a once great empire ...

Translation please?
(We speak a more old fashioned form of English, here in the former colonies.) |

I agree, Spinoza: disclaimers are an inefficient use of space.

A couple years on the net has taught me that if you don't grovel on the floor as if you barely had a right to present your opinion at all someone will jump up and call you arrogant. It's terribly annoying, but I have, until now, managed to avoid getting flamed by presenting everything I say as if I were slightly uncertain about it.
Now that I've gotten my first flame I can just cut to the chase and unleash my arrogance, since I'm smarter than everyone anyway. |
