Just wondering how much do agents really make? Been thinking about coming back to Korea after a few years away. And it seems that more schools are hiring through agents. I hate agents myself and would rather do it myself. But I have been subjected to enough pushy agents these last few days that it makes me wonder how much they are getting out of this.

more schools going through agents? you mean recruiters? it seemed to me to be the opposite..

anyway, they get anywhere from 500,000 to 1,500,000 from what i heard.. probably more...if at all possible contact schools directly.. remember they're already paying for plane tickets, visas (where applicable), and then recruiting fees.. it's insanity the money they'll pay just to get a whitie here... i think part of the whole problem of them screwing us in contracts would be GREATLY alleviated if recruiters were just OUT of the picture completely.... most schools have at least ONE person savvy enough to go to dave's and check for resumes.. therefore the whole idea of recruiters thriving in this country continues to baffle me...

agents-recruiters same thing. I put a resume out on dave's and about 90% of the inquiries I recieved were from agent/recruiters. One guy has emailed me 3 times a day for the past 4 days bugging me to take his offer even when I amde it clear I didn't want to. Finally I told him to go to ... . I was just curious what they make because some of them go to extremes. I pretty much have made up my mind which school to take anyway. thanks

I can't speak for Korea but unfortunately I have experience of recruitment in the UK and a consultants fee would generally fluctuate based on the frequency of the clients repeat business.

e.g.

My clients pay 25% of the annual salary as a fee for the first 5 people I successfully place then a continuous reduction in my fee down to about 9% if they continue to allocate me the work. I have heard of companies charging up to 50% for a fee but these were usually for specialised positions! Most of the work we do is temporary though with an average mark up of 20 - 25%

So if you havn't guessed recruitment is a serious money spinning industry!!! But it is a horrible job to do! I hate it!!! Great money but shyte people!

Bring on August bring on Korea Very Happy

Sounds like most of the recruiters in Korea with the exception of a few are getting money for very little effort as there seems to be a noticeable shortage of teachers throughout Korea and indeed the rest of Asia so candidates seem to be easily placed! I have myself been bombarded with offers from Taiwan, Korea and China on a daily basis since posting my CV on a few boards and to recruiters and I have very little teaching experience so there is plenty of work out there!

I have seen past posts stating that they have signed with recruiters in Korea that have received a percentage of their monthly salary as well as the finders fee which is absolutely Shocked Shocked Shocked and those recruiters definitely need to be avoided but to be fair I wouldn't touch the recruiters here in the UK with a barge-pole either, they seem worse!! Laughing How can you place people to Korea from the UK effectively! How does the candidate reach his recruiter if there has been a problem with the contract upon arrival? A long distance phone call to the UK? Very reassuring!

I think it will be the same as anywhere with recruiters there will be good ones and bad ones but they all will make a fortune for very little work!

of course they harass you.. that's why it's so retarded to try and find a job here.. the recruiters (in many cases) won't even give you any info about the school for fear that you'll go "behind their backs"..... never use one.. the sooner they're out of the picture the better.

I love recruiter bashing!
I particularly love it when all are categorised under the one label of being lazy, ruthless and greedy.
We had an annual recruiters meeting organised last night, but 80% couldn't bothered showing up, 10% were busy plotting against some poor unsuspecting teacher, and the other 10% were too busy counting the millions they are reportedly making.
