If they get favorable refereeing they might make it to the 2nd round.
Football is played very physically at club level but the referees stomp on the slightest infringement when it comes to the World cup. This penalises nations like Italy and spain but rewards teams like Korea. |

Logically, common-sensically, that's true. But in reality in means nothing. The standard of refereeing will be the same.
Korea's hopes depend on the Switzerland game. That's based on the (reasonable) assumption that they'll lose to France and beat Togo.
They basically need to beat Switzerland. That's totally 50/50 in my book. Tough call. |

I agree with this. They beat Togo and lose to France the Switzerland game will decide their fate. |

It's too hard to say. Just sit back and watch.
I don't follow soccer very closely even though I used to play (never followed it then either).
Why is the U.S. ranked 5th? |

I recon that they will draw with the Swiss and it will go down to goal difference in the group to see who goes through. |

If Korea wins their first game against Togo by at least 2 goals then they're sitting pretty for the second round. They could just play defensively against France. That 2nd one could be boring as hell. But I digress. I'm talking out of my arse. At least I finally have a reason to plug my TV in. |

It seems to me that Korea is totally lucky to have Togo first. If they get those extra goals in the win, great. But if they attack too much and the Togo counter finds the net once or twice, that could mean a quick end to their tourney. |

I will root for them but it will be hard to get to the second round. |

In nearly every world cup since 1990 an African nation (usually debutants) have produced a great upset. Togo should not be underestimated. If they beat Korea noone would even regard it as a shock. I can see Korea crashing out of the first round. In fact, I think the Swiss and the Togans are more likely to advance. |

no way they even come close to the second round. MAYBE a draw against Togo, no chance against France or Switzerland, you could see Togo go through to the second round.
going to be funny how many people watch the final game if this results happens. |

If I take the poll at face value, I guess I must assume that approx 90% or less feel that the last world cup was rigged.
Otherwise they would have more belief that a nation that made it into the semi's in 2002 and whose players subsequently have gone on to play for other well known teams would be able to provide a more interesting result then they did in the last world cup.
Or am I just reading it wrong |

They should do enough with Togo and Switzerland to get to the second round.
Then they'll probably get creamed.
The fact is, Hiddink and Advocat (sp?) have made the Korean national team into a top 20 world class team. It took western coaching methods to do it.
Before these Dutch guys came along the old-style Korean coaches were picking the team by means of seniority and having players hold up chairs on the sidelines if they did something wrong in training!! |
