A new report from the International Crisis Group says that Zimbabwe is rapidly self-destructing. The problems in the country are compounded by a lack of leadership in both the ruling party and the political opposition. Meanwhile, inflation is galloping forward; it could reach 3,000 percent. |

Didn't SocialismWorks defend that government as a socialist enclave that the media is being dishonest about? Was that the thread that sent Rapier over the deep end? |

Anyhow..lowest life expectancy and highest inflation, i'm proud!
Half a loaf of bread now goes for the same price tag as a luxury house cost 18 years ago.
I was last there in 97 and it was bad enough then. You'd buy a packet of milk for 80c one day, a week later it was $1. 20.
how bad will it get, one wonders? Theres probably no limit as the people are not only starving, controlled and intimidated, but also lack any weapons let alone running water or transport. Thanks a lot U westerners for helping mugabe to power 20 years back, the economic sanctions are finally working. |

Rapier, well said.
Sad state of affairs for all and a blight and pox on all our western houses......we just didn't care and sent token men to perform token observation meanwhile letting the fat man sing...........
There was a very beautiful window of opportunity a 2 years ago. No country stepped up and did the right thing -- funding, support, pressure, real pressure. Comes down to "better to have our man in there, than an unknown....".
Sad
Even worse for the journalists that I knew who'd gone there and made friends and then had to face the fact that their friends were gone...

What?
Smith had that country running like the prosperous well-oiled machine it should be.
His only mistake was to declare unilateral independence. The west didn't like that one bit and then did all they could to ruin a successful country.
I think people should be reminded that more blacks fought on Ian smith's side in the Rhodesian forces than did whites. Hardly the racist paradise portrayed in western media.
As soon as the muppet mugabe was installed, western multinational companies installed themselves to easily exploit the countries resources. Not hard to do with a hapless corrupt leader like Mugabe. So long as he got a big piece of the pie, he'd sell his own people to make soap.
As an independent state under Smith, Rhodesia was on top economically and holding its own in world trade. Under mugabe, it became dependent on the west again and its resources flooded out the country for peanuts. |

Difference is, the world was more sympathetic seeing Zimbabwe go down than watching your twin towers go down. |

Did you grow up in Zimbabwe, Rapier? The situation there is a total disgrace, and the silence of the other nations in Africa is also a disgrace. |

Hey, you asked for my thanks and I said you're welcome to it. Your problems are your own. You lived pretty well on the back of your father. Now you get to make your own way in the world. I realize it must suck having an array of black servants to do everything for you and then suddenly that's all taken away and you're just another white guy in a big white world. |
