This sounds like the other immigration thread. My wife who is American and is in the states is coming back to Korea in Aug. I want to get her a spousal visa (F-3) as she really doesn't want to work.

I go to immigration in Mokdong to ask them what to do, the guy tells me "oh have her come in on a tourist visa then come here and we'll change it" well i don't want to buy her an onward ticket so she can get on the plance there. I call the Korean consulate there to find out what she needs to do to apply for a visa there. They tell me to apply here and get her a visa issuance number. See my problem? Idiots here don't want to tell me the process to get what the consulate wants me to do.

Question, if we change her tourist visa to an F-3 will she have to leave the country to get it?

I did not have to leave the country, they just gave it to me at the immigration office, they cvan even send it to you if you prefer it

I have just come to South kOREA FROM China. My wife is chinese. we called the Korean embassy in Beijing they told my wife that if she came with me that she could not come to Korea on a tourist visa and then change it to the spouse visa. She would have to go back to china. So like you I am getting mixed messages here. I will go to Immigration on monday and ask them this question and see what answer they will give me.

Hogwonguy...why don't you have your wife contact the nearest Korean consulate StateSide and ask them what to do to obtain a "spousal visa". Then, she will know what is required: paperwork/documents...etc. Also, you might ask your boss for a little assistence as well... Very Happy

I called the consulate near where we live in the states and they told me to apply for a visa here and she can pick it up there, immigration here told me to have her come on a tourist visa and not bother to apply here before she comes over

I assume that you already have your ARC. If you do not have it yet, then you cannot get her an F3.

To get her an F3 (visa confirmation number) simply go to the visa section and fill in the application.

You will need:
a copy of her passport information pages,
a copy of your wedding certificate,
a copy of your passport information pages,
a copy of your ARC, and
a letter from your employer to confirm your employment.

The process usually takes about 4 days.

When you get the visa confirmation number, simply send it to her.

She will take the visa confirmation number, her passport, 2 photos, and $60 to the nearest Korean consulate and get her visa put in her passport.

Then she jumps on a plane and you meet her at the airport.
