|
|
I`m coming out to Korea shortly to work in a hagwon. This will be my first teaching job and I was wondering what the standard hours are per day/week.
I turned down a job in Seoul because it was 8 hours a day from 2pm - 10pm.
I thought this was too many hours. I was looking for about 6hours a day. Am I being unreakistic in my expectations? |

My last job was 2-9 Mon/Wed/Fri, and 2-6:40 Tue/Thur. Also had to work half my Saturdays. In retrospect the hours weren't that bad though the school itself was horrible... another story altogether.
Look into after school classes... excellent hours. Now I arrive at 11, have an hour lunch break (with lunch included), and work 4 hours.
Good luck! |

I'm at school from 2:00-8:30, with the first half hour being prep. I get some random breaks, usually about 1.5 hours during the week. Also, lots of little 5 minute breaks in the day, so actual classroom time in closer to 5 hours/day. |

Working hours:
MWF 10:00 - 5:35
TTh 10:00 - 2:25
I usually show up about 30 minutes before classes start, but it's not required. One hour (unpaid) for lunch (provided) everyday. Plus breaks (paid) between classes of 5-20 minutes. Actual contact hours is 22:20.
Getting 6 hours a day will be tough. You can definitely get 6 hours a day of teaching (make sure they don't count just contact hours as hours worked), but most places will require you to come in an hour early for prep. Even if they don't require it, you should spend an hour or so a day doing it. |

I'm in a (private) public school and teach 28 hours a week (22 regular and 6 OT). I'm required to be at school from 9 to 5, but since 5 of my extra classes are before school, I arrive at 7:30 and start my teaching day at 8. On Wednesdays I don't have any morning classes during the regular school day, but am required to be at school. |
