Where have you been, where would you go back to and not go back to? What would you recommend to others?

Everyone is different. But for me, I like the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

I've also been to Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam.. and fairly content without the interest in going back to them anytime soon.

For recommendations.. probably go with what everyone goes with: Thailand. Its just the hub.. not to mention very international in feel.

Northern Thailand, especially Chaing Mai, Pai, and Mae Hong Son. I went last year thinking I'd see it all in a week, and it took up my entire three weeks - could easily have stayed longer too!

Favourites:
1. Perhentian Islands, Malaysia
Glory.

2. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Anything Bangkok has, minus the ick.

3. Nong Khai, Thailand
Quiet town by the Mekong. Good place to hide out from the law for a few years. Bring a good book.

4. Thai & Malaysian trains
If it's a Thai train, go cheap class. No glass in the windows, but the moving air keeps things cool. Friendly local people.
If it's a Malaysian train, go for the better class, but then again, with the advent of Air Asia, why would anyone bother with a Malaysian train?

Misses:
1. Singapore
I don't hate Singapore, but I don't like it much either. Rude, pushy people, products of a "kiasu" culture that glorifies greed and selfishness. Little India is colorful, "Chinatown" (an oxymoron in very Chinese Singapore) is *not* colorful. Shopping is overrated.

I can kill a few days there - and do often - but I way prefer Kuala Lumpur.

Nope, missing a big ass river going through it Wink. Nice going down the Chao Praya on the uber cheap ferry.
