Hello.
I was just hoping someone would be able to help me by suggesting some games and songs for Kindergarten classes. I don't remember much of my own childhood and I've never worked with kids or taught before so I'm basically lost on what to do. The directors and other teachers at my school haven't been much help.
Thanks for any advice. |

I have a ton of songs, but I'll just name a few that have been big hits with my kids.
I try to do action songs as much as possible, because then the kids can't be bored.
shake your sillies out - the wiggles
point your fingers - the wiggles
head and shoulders - by anyone (and also do it yourself, starting slowly..then doing it faster, then doing is super fast. in between each, ask them "faster?"...and after a while they'll just start yelling at you to do if faster).
I have more songs that I've yet to try out. When I was a kid, I really liked "going on a bear hunt", but it hasnt been much of a hit here, and its a bit longer.
If you want any of the songs that I have PM me and I'll see what I can do! |

If you can't remember any songs, get yourself a copy of Wee Sing nursery rhymes.
There are several different Wee Sing books, so have a look through the various ones and see which one is best suited to your needs.
If you can't remember the melodies, they come with a tape or CD.
Some of them even have some actions to go with the songs. You should be able to find this at Kim and Johnson's or English Plus, perhaps Kyobo or some other book stores as well.
As for games, try this:
Get a bright colored ball or stuffed toy (not too big)
As part of the class, throw the ball to the students.
When one student succeeds in getting the ball, call out 'A'. the student then has to come up with an 'A word'. It's good to have a chart with several words for each letter, that way if the student can't come up with a word on their own, you can help them a bit.
Get the student to throw the ball back, repeat procedure but this time call out 'B' etc.
It's good for about 10 minutes or so.
Be patient, it may take them a while to catch on to how the game works. |

I've got some sites listed under 'k' for kindergarten (where else?) on my link below - it includes the site for the cheery 'egg song' - nice if you have access to a computer screen with your class.
Remember that those ball games are effective, but you should make sure all the kids are sitting well apart from each other. When they try to catch the ball, there are inevitable elbows flying, and if one kid gets hit in the face, that's the end...
I think the poster 'tomato' also has some good kindy ideas. Search for him/her. |

Cheers. I thought the one page A-Z indexing would make searching easier.
If anyone has some good sites to add, please let me know! |

C is for Cookie by Cookie Monster. Always a hit. Give out cookies once and they'll love the song forever. |
