In the last few hours my internet has been cutting out for no apparent reasons and giving me this message, "limited or no connectivity". What exactly does this mean and what are the likely causes? I assume it's not the fault of my computer.

Are you using a wireless connection? (I only get that error when my wireless goes down to below 1.0MB/s). If that's the case, try moving your system a bit to see if it can grab the connection fro someplace a little stronger.

Works for me, but I have a laptop so it's easy enough...

No, I have a wired connection, making it all the more mysterious. Perhaps there's been a bill payment issue.

Funny, this is the second tech problem today that has been posted here that I've also been having at home.

My internet connection drops for about two minutes every couple of hours. The KT service guy has been out 3 times, the most recent being yesterday. First time he did nothing, as far as I could tell; the second time he changed the modem; yesterday he said he "changed the line." We'll see if anything is different today when I get home.

Maybe you should give your ISP a call.

Mine does that but only when I have a torrent client running. It's annoying, but I just run it when I don't need to be at the computer.

My Nespot service does that far too often. At least once a week my internet will stop working for 5-10 hours. I used to call the KT guy to come out every time it happened until I figured out he and his posse had no idea what was wrong. They also tried to get me to believe that my brand new laptop was broken. Then they said my computer's channels didn't match up with the KT channels.

Anyway, if anyone figures out how to effectively thwart the "limited or no connectivity" problem, please post. (Moving my computer closer to the black box doesn't help.)

p.s. Mine also goes out every time it rains.

Control panel > Network Connections

open this up and right click on your LAN connection. Select disable and then when it greys out right click and select Enable again.

THis sometimes sorts it out for me as does restarting (on/off) the modem.

Finally restart your computer. I get this sometimes if my pcs been on for days and I've been running a few torrents in the meantime.

Otherwise, your net service is down and you need to give some adjosshi a call...

The KT guy came today. First he basically told me do everything I'd already been doing.. unplug it, then plug it back in... restart... unplug the modem power then turn it back on. When it became clear that none of that would work he was pretty stumped. He installed something. He jiggered with stuff. He called in a buddy. He tried it out on his laptop, where it worked. He concluded that my LAN card is loose, which I don't think is the explanation because it is suddenly working far more reliably than before.

mine has been messing up for the last few days as well.

at first i thought it was because i was downloading torrents like crazy the other night, but i havent run any torrents today, and my connection still drops once every hour or two.

Mine was doing the same thing until the KT opened another connection for my computer....It seems to be routed through KT. Now, I have to enter a password before I use the internet. I don't know if this helps, but now I never have problems.

Sorry, I did not read all of the posts to see if anyone else recommended this or not, but did you try rebooting the modem? Also, if you are using a router you might want to set a static IP address instead of obtaining one automatically.

I would love to hear how one can simply 'set' a static IP for a router without paying one's ISP for the privilege.

If you mean set a 'static' IP address on your pc via your router's LAN, how would that resolve the problem?

I love when people like you throw your condescending comments into a post. Pardon me if my techno jargon isn't up to your level. I was merely offering a suggestion of something that has worked for me in the past with a similar problem. Sometimes there is a conflict with the modem and the router. If you set the IP to the router address it sometimes solves the problem. I have only used broadand this century so I have no idea about dialup or DSL. I did not say whether it would work for the OP or not. If you know so much then offer up a solution, genious instead of negativity!

No seriously, you suggested using a static IP. How do you do that without paying more? You can't come here, tell everyone they are wannabe techno geeks and then throw around BS solutions using jargon you don't properly understand, and furthermore do it without reading any previous posts, and then get offending and defensive when people ask what the hell you are talking about.

Actually you can do that, as you have just proven...

I used that term in jest. Sorry to offend. I just seems to me more times than not that people rarely offer suggestions on how to correct a problem, but are quick to criticize those who do. Whatever, I am done.
