I need to remain in Korea to find another job because I need to get a tourist visa while I do job searches and interviews in Korea. My visa expires on June 25. I read about how more expensive and a little more complicated it is to get a visa in Beijing, but does the same apply to Shanghai? I'd rather go there instead of Fukuoka because I've visited Fukuoka twice in the past. But I'm also confused because I heard that you can get a tourist visa at the airport. Does this mean a Korean airport? I'd rather save time and money if I can get my tourist visa taken care of at Incheon Airport. And I always heard that a tourist visa was good for one month for Americans but I recently heard that it's good for three months. What's the truth? Any help is appreciated. |

Go to the Korean consulate in Fukuoka and apply for a C-3 Status (Short-term Visitors) visa.
When the application is approved, they will affix a visa stamp in your passport. On the visa stamp, there are the status of sojourn(C-3), period of stay(less than 90 days) and validity of the visa.
Korean Immigration law does make it more complicated to get a visa in China. |

Thank you for the information. Do I have to prepare anything before going to the Korean consulate in Fukuoka? |

You cannot get a visa at the airport.
Your options are:
Visit a Korean consulate or Embassy outside Korea and get a c3 visa. It is good for up to 90 days.
Jump on a boat and come back. You get another 30 day visa waiver stamp in your passport when you re-enter the country (perhaps this is what you thought was a visa at the airport).
Find a job and do your visa run before your current stamp runs out.
Getting a visa in China is more difficult than Japan cause you need a visa to enter China and they don't do many c3 visas for NON-Chinese citizens.
The consulates in Japan do visas for us every day. Routine for them. If you don't like Fukuoka then go to Osaka or Tokyo for a change of pace.
Other country options include HongKong, Thailand (Bangkok), the Philippines (Manila) or Guam. |
