| I was all stoked about cheering for Korea in their effort in the world cup. But that's all changed now. I was watching my team get beat and about half the Koreans in the bar were cheering "bravo" when Czech Republic scored a goal. Incidentally, I was happy to root against Japan as Australia made that incredible run late in the second half. But this has totally shifted my position on the matter. I hope a coachless Togo beats Korea. I hope they go down. Pizz on Korea. |

Quite a Hidink-esque finish, eh?
Technically beautiful, I suppose. Though I was the only weguk in the restaurant,
and the only person rooting for Japan. My thinking was it would make for more excitement if Japan advanced.
I'm not always right. And I'm still a Hidink fan. I even saw him in person at the Incheon airport once.
Koreans always root against US. Thank stars we didn't start in the same group again.
(who rolls those dice?) I'm American, BTW. Good show, just outclassed.
I don't think I've ever even HEARD of Togo. But Koreans tell me it's going to be a tough game.
I'll be out in force, and in red, with all the geeky accessories available at your corner store tomorrow night.
Dae Han Min Guk~!

| Yes, the US lost to the Czechs 3-0. I am sure many Koreans are laughing now, but it's just a game folks...just a game. WE are not the ones making millions of dollars, regardless who wins or loses. I have more things to get all bent out of shape over these days. |

| It's a spoiler for me. I was prepared to do the same. This is a deal breaker. I love Korea, but these Koreans solidified my position on the soccer tip. Yes, its a game. Now I know who to go for. Viva la France (never, ever, thought I'd say that). |

| I just saw on ESPN that Togo's coach is back in time for the game!!! He left over a pay dispute and now he's back! |

Don't worry, you'll have the last laugh when they fly home at the same time as your mob, which will be very likely from first performances. |

It definitely was easier to root for Korea last WC when the wife and I were living in Canada, and not forced to endure the relentless onslaught of "support". I hope they do well; I just don't want to hear about it, if that makes sense.
Game: turn on your TV and try to flip through at least 5 channels that aren't airing something WC-related.

iT'S great to see Americans like yourself caring. Not only caring, but doing what the rest of the world does during the WC - get all pissed off and nationalistic, take it really seriously and get offended by stuff. That's the whole magic right there. Hopefully more Americans on the board will watch the games in bars and come across stuff like that because that's the whole attraction of international football, quite apart from being a soccer fan per se. That's pissed you off, so now you're gonna tune in tonight to Korea v Togo, rooting for the latter. You're hooked, forever! HAHAHA! |

I think it was BETTER than because people didn't have any attitude because they had no beef to back it up with.
This world cup, they're under the impression that they ARE great and they WILL win. That makes the cheering and general attitude of the people much more difficult to take.
I will cheer for the team but I have no desire to see them go too far. They're pretty low on my list of teams i've got to cheer for. |

I guess you didn't notice the newsflash that was broadcast just before the game.

SPINOZA, I'm being dragged to the stadium by my wife to watch the game. She wants us to wear matching red t-shirts. I'm still standing on the fence on this one. I want to please my wife--and use it to blackmail her into going to hockey games with me. But, there's something about the whole red t-shirt phenomenon that just turns me off. It reminds me too much of Venetian carnival masks. It allows people to express themselves freely, but in the long run it does little to improve personal freedom. I know, I know. It's the team's colour. But, I'd still rather wear a white t-shirt with the word "Korea" in big bold letters. Even a white t-shirt with a picture of Dokdo would be better than a red t-shirt.

I'm sure Korea wasn't alone. I'd bet most of the world roots against the Americans. |
