i am looking at my options after this contract... so far i have taught adults 40+ hours a week... on a split-shift... i am considering a kindy hagwon with small classes (6) and only 22 hours a week... any advice? similar pay... better location, nearer the beach, etc.

It's a whole nuther ball of wax. Personally, I prefer kindy and young kids.

On the negative side, little ones take a very different personality to deal with.
They are ACTIVE.... and their attention span is about 5-10 minutes, so you have to do lots of stuff for short periods of time. See and do with lots of repeating. Songs and chants with actions, arts and crafts with LOTS of hands on help. Infinite patience is required.

On the plus side. They are like little puppies. They will give you lots of love, hugs and cuddles. They are VERY responsive and learn like little sponges soaking up everything. They are special and there is magic in the air when you deal with them.

IF you decide to switch to LITTLE kids (k-6), read your face OFF about EARLY childhood education methodologies and early childhood development. They are NOT like little adults.

Good luck.... you may be one of the few, the proud, the real kindy teachers.

It's NOT for everyone, but it is indeed a calling for a few.

I think I would die a very slow death teaching kindy 30 hours a week. It takes a lot of energy and you really need to love little kids! They are little....you need to be ready for that.

I have 2 classes of 8-10 year olds a day, not even kindy. They take more energy than my other 7 or 8 classes put together. I have bags and bags of energy, but I couldnt do it full time. Kudos to you if that's what you really want to do.

A small class size is the key. You will no doubt be exhausted for the first couple of weeks or so until you get into your groove. If you relax a little and enjoy yourself, the kids will pick up on that. As has been mentioned, lots of short, simple activities, songs and crafts is the order of the day. Don't expect too much out of the little ones though, just make it enjoyable.

Sounds like hell to me, I much prefer adults. YMMV.

POLY Kangnam has a good, and reasonably organized kindy program...just get on the night shift. You may, if you are "qualified," even get middle school. I would NOT recommend the AM shift. I have been pretty happy here, but I went in with my eyes open.

Word of caution: POLY does have a 40 hour a week schedule, and, though they pay well, it gets very hectic and they expect a lot of work. No more than if they were in the United States, though. North American textbooks are used.
