As the subject indicates, I accpeted a Hagwon job (ahh!) in Pusan near PNU. I am pretty excited. My cousin and his family are stationed in Seoul and I know one other teacher in the capital.

I previously taught science to 5th, 7th and 8th graders on the Island of St. Thomas (We bought the Virgin Islands from the Danish in 1917 to protect our lands seized from the Spanish). I miss my kids and their families but I am eager to study martial arts and the Korean culture; then, hopefully return someday to the VI or Trinidad to teach martials arts to the locals.

I have read many complaints about Korea but I am not too worried about my decision. My second-cousins, who frequently venture away from the base, love Korea. Besides, teaching (read jumping around, entertaining, helping and motivating) is the fun part; and if you do not agree, perhaps you should find a need vocation. I tried other jobs, government and speech writing, manual labor, the tourism industry--but I think I found my niche.

For me, I believe Korea will be a positive experience. As long as HIV infected locals are not gang-raping male tourists and sticking metals poles up their arses; robbing and killing tourists; throwing bricks at teacher's heads; jumping teachers and children after football games (I was involved in this one); shooting guns and smoking pot outside my school; sexual assaulting 90% of the female population (according to my close female friends) as they are in St. Thomas, then I am sure I wil be OK.

Quick questions.

I spent a lot of time exercising while I lived in St. Thomas, and I intend to do the same in Pusan. I hope that there any extracurricular sports such as soccer and basketball in the PNU area. Do you guys know of any?

Also, are there any sailors out there who need weekend help? Before I left the VI, I had the opportunity to sail a boat from the VI to Trinidad (several hundred miles) with two close friends and I would like to continue sailing.

Lastly, do you guys actively participate in martial arts. I am going to study Hapkido and Judo (if it is available)--I wish I could continue with Krav Maga but I dont think this international self-defense system has made its way to Korea.

OK, see on you on the far side of the world.

Having read previous posts, I knew the incorrect spelling in the subject would attract the attentions of some of you Englsh Nazis. That, and it is 2:30 am.

Sounds like a good night out in Itaewon to me.
