I went in to get a trim and my re-growth touched up at headrush today. The cut turned out great.

But now instead of Gwyneth Paltrow blonde, I now have clumps of ash grey where they tried to fix up the bits where my hair had turned Big Bird Yellow.

Oh dear. I once tried for ash blonde but instead got licorice green which somehow sounds better than big bird yellow. At least I looked a bit punkish Wink

My mum always told me the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is two weeks, however, she doesn't have any good advice about effed up hair colour.

It's getting cold there now, yeah? Hat's baby Cool

I hear ya. I had a similar experience last year that my hair is just now recovering from.

What's wrong with them is that they're used to working on one type of texture and color of hair. Do you think Korean beauty schools really spend a lot of time talking about how to properly dye or otherwise chemically treat hair that isn't Korean?

Being the uncreative problem solvers that I've found many Koreans to be, they just blaze ahead, following their checklist of procedures, without regard to nuance.

That's why I am choosing to have a bad case of re growth from my highlights until I get to Bangkok in January. It hurts me to have to go for a trim here but risk highlights...no way. It's also cheaper in Bangkok, $20 for a cut and the best highlights ever. Can't beat that!

I just experienced the first good haircut in almost 2 years here. They love to take off about 3 inches when I tell them 1/2 cm. I have tried bringing notes in Korean. I have tried translators. Nothin has worked. I got desperate recently as my hair was frizzin on the ends something fierce and went to a local place for a trim. I live near an art college with lots of young students but i'm out in the boonies so I was worried about the result. I also needed my roots touched up. (I bring my own color). It cost 25,000 won for 2 1/2 hours of work. and it turned out to be one of the best cuts I have ever had. I left her a 10, 000 won tip and almost cried because I was so happy.

I have been through the orange and big bird yellow colors too. The bleach and colors they use here are often not strong enough or else they don't leave it on long enough. You can go to Namdaemun market and they have a hairdressing building that is wholesale. Last time I went they had a good range of colors and they had a stronger volume bleach. buy that and bring it to the salon. It will end up being cheaper too in the long run.

Imagine this...I've been back Stateside now 2 years and it took me 6 barbers/hairstylists to FINALLY get a good haircut. Haircut, I repeat. Nothing difficult.

Who is the lucky number 6 to be able to do such a successful cut?

A Korean ajumma! (and 3 bucks cheaper no less!)

My wife? Still unsuccessful, that is, unless she wants to spend $60. Bugger that! We're counting the days 'til our arrival home to get good trimmings and what-not.

!shoosh

I actually got good highlights done by Michael who works in the hair salon above Burger King on Itaewon. He speaks English too. They set me back 80,000 won, but I'd pay that again not to have orange hair.

PM me for his number!

The thing that grates me so is that I got my hairdresser in New Zealand to write down exactly what they were supposed to do, and I went to a guy who trained in england so the language wasn't a problem. They got my low-lights in, but the highlights just don't look good. They also didn't the roots very well.

Been there. They buggered up my highlights once. He's good, but if it gets busy his assitants can be kind of iffy

was that headrush in hongdae? i had a hair disaster there, too. i had a "tiger efftect" -- striped bright yellow and dark brown. too bad, because they're so nice.

I went there, too. They fried my hair. His assistant put in waaaaay too many highlights and I had to go completely blonde after that. I was there for 4 hours and they did my hair twice. The assistant was doing my highlighted roots and didn't go nearly close enough to the scalp. She was really sloppy and dropped bleach in between the sections of hair so I had a zebra stripe look. Really unattractive. (I had to wait 3 months until I went home to have it fixed). I dunno if I would recommend going there....

yup that be the place. I just don't understand that in a city of 10 million people there is not one person who is able to cut and color foreign hair. I would gladly pay 200k if I could find someone who could do this.

One of my bosses in the office got himself a perm over the weekend. It turned out pretty bad. Feel sorry for the guy.
