Hi,
Is it fairly easy to find a job, which has suitable accomodation for a married couple?
I hope to move to Seoul in September, and look for work in the 2007, with accomodation for me and my Korean wife.
Any advice on a good place to learn Korean language skills would be great, also any advice on what are the various ESL positions that should maybe avoided or given careful consideration.
Cheers

I was somewhat in the same situation.
Let me be straight, it will not be easy, you will have to rely on your wife's family in the beginning if it is possible. Technically i still rely on my wife's family for a lot of things.
Especially when it comes to housing and arranging details.
Learning Korean is not impossible, but you are going to have to work hard at it. Try taking 4 months intensive Korean, i did 6 and still strugling to utter a normal converation.
But with sufficient conviction and a family that helps you getting yourself 'dug in' isn't all that hard.
Is there maybe a more concrete question regarding your situation, it is somewhat superfluous to give a good answer to it. |

I plan to go to Korea on a tourist visa in September, marry in October and live in rented accomodation. I hope then to do an intensive Korean language course (I have learnt the basics!), before starting work in a job that offers accomodation.
This is why accomodation for a couple is preferred, before single housing (is single housing suitable for a couple).
We have been led to believe by immigration, that it will be easy for us to register our marriage and I can get a F-2 visa?
Cheers,

Yes, it is easy to register your marriage and get an F-2.
As for accommodation (btw, it's got 2Cs and 2Ms), instead of them giving you housing, they will give you a housing allowance in lieu if you ask for it. It's usually between 300k to 400K depending where you work.
Universities will be able to provide you with married couple quarters (although don't bet on it) but I am told usually their housing allowance is quite small.
Hagwons and public schools will give you a bit more - up to 400k in the provinces and more in Seoul.
The fact that you will already be in Korea, thus not requiring return airfare will be a major plus for you and you can probably leverage your housing on that. |

Ooooooooooooooohhh no,
Trust me to make a spelling mistake on an ESL site
I would like to say it was a sticky keyboard, but I have always had a problem with this word.
I will never again forget, Thanks.
Looking forward to living and teaching in Korea. |
