|
|
| My school has just recently hired a new teacher and she was wondering if there will be any problems entering korea with a tourist visa and one way flight (no return ticket booked). I recall having this same concern when I arrived a year ago, but there was no problem at all. I was not even asked a single question. Is this still happening? Have there been any changes that require tourists to show a return flight? |

| I've entered Korea a dozen times or more without an outgoing ticket, often without a work visa, and never had a problem, never was asked to show one (unlike, say, in Japan). I'm Canadian. Maybe that helps. I always breeze through Korea going in or out. Maybe had a minor hassle once or twice. I guess korea is one of the easiest places to go in or out. |

She MAY have problems.....
The airline faces the risk of a substancial fine AND the requirement to repatriate the passenger at the airlines expense if they fail to ensure entry requirements.
Please allow me to quote:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
National U.S.A. (US) /Embarkation U.S.A. (US)
Destination KOREA (REPUBLIC) (KR)
Passport required, or
Certificate of Identity with permission from the Ministry of Justice of Korea (Rep.).
Visa not required for a touristic stay of max. 30 days.
Passenger must hold:
- confirmed onward ticket for flight departing within 30 days and- all documents for next destination; and
- may not have record of remunerative or illegal activities
undertaken in above mentioned countries.
In all cases:
1. visitor must hold:
- return/onward ticket (if not advised otherwise) and all
documents required for next destination; and
- sufficient funds for maintenance; and
- contact address in Korea Rep.
Non-compliance with the entry regulations will result in fines for the airline and deportation of passenger.

Get her a ticket going to Japan and dated within 30 days of her trip here. She will have to make a visa run anyway. Solves your problem.
She just needs to show the itinerary / e-ticket. She doesn't need the paper ticket.

| I came to Korea twice on a one way ticket. The first time nae bother. The second time (July 2005) they wouldn't let me on board until I bought a ticket out of the country. Furthermore, I couldn't even buy a ticket on a creditcard because they'd had 'problems' with that in the past, so it was cold hard cash or a debit card. Sucked. I was flying for a job I knew I had, and I knew I would be taking a boat to Japan (my choice rather than the plane) but they wouldn't let me board until I'd bought a ticket out of the country. I bought a full price fully refundable ticket to Tokyo which I never took... which reminds me.. I need to go cash that 'ma in... |

It depends on the day of the week and the airline. It's really a pain because they are not consistent. So many employers are only paying for one way tickets initially. Pre-purchase a ferry ticket to Japan and give her a copy of the ticket, that will solve any problems before they happen. |

I had this problem coming over last month with KLM from the UK. Make sure you ask for the duty manager if they refuse. He came over and said my letter of appointment and my passport page were enough to cover the airline.
if you're heading on to Japan, have the ferry company or travel agent email you your receipt; most airlines will accept this as proff of ongoing travel. |

I flew Korea Air one way from London to Seoul last September and if I hadn't of had my visa already they wouldn't have let me fly.

Did you fly from Heathrow T4 by any chance. The KLM staff there were funny with me because I only had a one-way ticket, even though I had my E2 visa. The guy said "you may have problems at Incheon sir, I hope you have a hand-written letter from your employer to show immigration staff there, etc etc." When I arrived (after a cr@p flight), I breezed through immigration with no bother at all. |
