|
|
?????
I've been told that for me to get my BASIC TV re-hooked up (as its been without a wall aerial socket for 3 months) after I got rid of the Cable TV my apartment's previous occupant had installed that I've got to pay an activation charge of 16,000W and then a montly cost of 7,700W for the basic 4 / 5 channels of terrestrial TV
I don't know, I guess it's comparable to a TV License that they have in the UK but that's to fund the BBC which doesn't allow advertisements. Does an analagous situation exist in Korea?

Your basic TV *license* that's the same as the UK fee is already included in your electricity bill.
What you are talking about is reconnection fee for a cable company which gives you 50/60 channels.
How much it'll be depends on where you live and the company. |

But that's the thing... I'm NOT getting cable TV, at least I thought I made that perfectly clear, and it's all being done through my director. I'm getting the 4 BASIC channels and she's confirmed that to me...
I did have Cable for my first few days here, but the 50 - 60 channels cost 20,000 a month, and I'm rarely at home. I'd much rather drop that money on the internet, and that's what happened, the wall plug that used to have the cable plugged in, now has the internet line in... so I've not had a plug for the TV aerial to go into.
I thought it was as simple as getting a splitter, but I'd no idea where to get a splitter so I approached my director about sorting my TV out to receive the basic channels, because I'd been without... anyway the owner checked it out and apparently something about the socket / connection means I need to pay a reconnection fee and 7,700W PER MONTH (independant of the electricity bill) for the privilege |

I will do you a favor. Go to www.viidoo.com download the program and you can watch ABC from the US and a few others. I seldom watch korean television anymore. ABC and Univision give me my tv fix. Thank me later with money |

Wow.
Huge thanks. I'd been getting my World Cup fix from PPStream, and the Chinese CCTV5... downside was that commentary was in Chinese... but to have not only ESPN to watch the World Cup on, but ABC and a few more US Channels... Wow, lol
Made my day. |

Hi,
Do I have cable?
My TV was already hooked up when I moved in as the previous teacher only moved out a week before my arrival.
I have around 35 channels, mostly Korean. English channels are AFN, Arirang..I'm getting the internet soon so I don't want to pay for both - if anyone can advise i'd be very grateful.
Thanks |

There are two things in Korea: cable and sky. Cable is cheaper and sky costs more.
Cable shouldn't cost you more than 6/7,000 won whereas Sky is more than 20,000.
Are you sure your director is getting you cable and not sky? |

If you are paying for internet... it usually varies but around 20 - 30 k and the cable TV is usually only extra 10,000 or so. Probably they are connecting the cable and giving you the package deal with both hence the 7,700.
http://dcc.hcn.co.kr/isp/product.jsp
this place offers both for 35k per month (1 year contract)
or
26k for 3 years.
If you going to pay for internet you mays as well pay the 10 000 for cable too. |
