The French sure do get some grief. It seems as though they're the most disliked country sometimes. Why, in your view? I refer of course to the French in France - not French-speaking people elsewhere in the world.

A lot of English people say "God I hope Korea beat France in the World Cup" and that's kind of understandable because of the history of rivalry between the two countries. In case you didn't know, the French really don't like the English either - in my opinion more so than the English hate the French. There are a lot of Francophiles in England, but you won't find many anglophiles in France, despite the fact that we saved them from the Germans twice. English food and culture get constant sh*t from the Frogs, when in actual fact a lot English food is delicious whereas French food consists largely of Mussles and fries. Go to the French provinces (that means anywhere except Paris, folks) as I have done many times and you'll see what I mean.

Me personally, I sort of instinctively don't like the French because I feel looked down upon by them, but when I give it more thought, I realize that it's quite ridiculous.

I was going to say something regarding this statement but then you qualified everything with............

So what you are really saying is that you are a hangover from the old "sun never sets on the British empire" and see how ridiculous you are ???? (atleast in part).

I have lived over 5 years in France (mostly Marseille/Savoy) and spend almost 10 long summers in Corsica. I speak fluent French and so I have some perspective.

the French, the only attitude towards them is Love and Hate 'em. But most of all I love them because I do think that all good people, all human people and not just dead flotsam are exactly that -- those passionate enough to believe in something, to look beyond to dare to be extreme in some "human" measure.

As to the food comment again -- I love mussels and fries and actually sneak in fries to Mad For Garlic so I can enjoy the pleasant dipping..................don't get me going on French food -- I'm that far gone and even in the provinces they know food, good food. And don't get me started on English cuisine (my even the word cuisine sounds vulgar!!!! in this context.). Some great English cooks but they all have ventured out of that bland womb of mother England...

And we all know how much Proust saw with one simple dip of his madelaine....ummmmmmm

DD
PS> please tell me why the south of France is overrun with English wannabe French???????? God I hate that!!!!

Je vis un reve qui n'arrete , ni nuit , ni jour........

I love the French...

As for "we saved them from the Germans twice...." Listen, I like England much more than USA, but I think "twice" is a stretch. I'd say saved once and "kinda helped" one more time. No disrespect to all England did in WW2 and their ability to "hold on" from 1939- the entry of the US, but if it weren't for those dang Yanks...

French writers, French music, French amour have a special character. French girls are often seen as cute, a simply make-upless beauty, but overall no more so than dozens of other cultures' girls, but...

...a French WOMAN is something special. In many cultures female beauty fades, but in French culture a woman is not considered less attractive as she approaches 30 and 40, quite the contrary. The poise, personality and spirit of a French woman is something special. Nothing at all submissive or inferior about it, no attempt to hold onto girlishness into their thirties, no, instead a full-bodied allure, and I don't mean fat (not with most French women). There are many incredible thirtysomething French women on the streets of Montreal.

Korean men just don't get it. They want infantile prepubescent attitudes and you can see thirtysomething women trying to live up to a model they no longer are suited to, and their charm is very much an act, then start the slow makeup and tacky clothes slide toward ajumma status. I had a class of Korean men laugh at the very idea of women getting more beautiful in their thirties. Not possible they thought. I must be joking. I wasn't.

lol!!! you've got to be kidding!! the best England could do in either case was a fragile stalemate.. they could barely save themselves in the short term.. USA to the rescue.. and in WWII thank the Soviets while you're at it.

I avoid making sweeping generalizations about any nationality, but I will say I like French toast, French bread and french fries and I really like to french kiss.

French cheese is good.
They are absolute cunts when it comes to giving anything to the UK.
The only reason they don't want Britain to get the CAP rebate is because those turds take up about a quarter of the total money spent on CAP by each country.

They're arrogant, emotional and irrational, but at the end of the day you've gotta love them. They crack me up. Laughing

I cannot stand French literature--the poetry lisps, buzzes and nasals like thin berry syrup dripping out of a hairy nose with one nostril clogged and whistling. Their philosophy is only one baguette length less barmy than that of the Germans, and their entire politics is based on whiningly maintaining a world power status they no longer deserve.

I'm American, and the only (ridiculous generalization wise for the sake of this OP) country's culture and politics I respect less than America's is France's. Balance of poweur my freckled Irish ass. Don't get me started on the odour of a Parisian bus in August.

On the other hand, what I would do for a night out with Irene Jacob and Julie Delpy. Lordy, lordy, oh my lord.

-Patton

At least I think thats what he said.
I'm not sure why D-Day isn't a holiday there anymore.
