Want to know about "cost of living" in general or "tailors" in general?
Then use the "search" command at the top of the board, look up where you log in and you'll see the word "Search". Click it, then type in key words. Don't forget to click the "all" words option to narrow your search.
And check out the FAQ forum as well. A lot of work went into organizing that to provide background information on general inquiries.
And by all means, afterwards, start threads about specific questions you have.
But the most general questions have been answered time and again, in great detail. CHECK IT OUT! |

I've tried the "search" function several times since I discovered this board. Sometime it's helpful but a lot of times it's not. I've searched key words only to get back a long list of irrelevant threads. I know sometimes new people just don't know to try the search button or check the FAQs, but a lot of times it's just easier, less time consuming and less frustrating to ask a question and get a straight answer. It's really frustrating to search with a key word then have to sift through dozens of irrelevant threads that only came up because your key word was buried in a post on page 3. I agree that people should do some reading and a little digging on the forums first before posting a question, but there is a limit. Life is too short. Maybe an improved search function would help?
Just my thoughts on the subject. We newbies aren't all bad. |

The search function is terrible on these boards. If you are looking for information on something, twenty irrelevant threads pop up for every relevant one.
Dave Sperling needs to get the search function so that you can use quotes in order for only exact matches of searched for phrases pop up.
Until then, people need to read stickies, and if the older poster's are tired of answering the same questions, feel free to ignore. |

wrong - the developers of phpBB need to strengthen the search feature - sperling has nothing to do with it.
Alternatively he could migrate over to a different board software with better search capabilities. |

Vanislander,
The search feature sucking balls is a topic that's been done to death.
You've obviously not needed to search the boards recently, and why would you? You've been posting since August 2003 and there's probably not much you don't know.
I reckon we should lay off the newbs. |

As an alternative to the weak phpbb search function you might try an advanced google search limited to this domain and path (http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea). This gives you the functionality of the google advanced search within the Forum content.
