For those of you that have been to both seoul and busan, I am curious which city people like better. I am planning on going to Korea soon, and can't decide between the two cities. I want a metropolitan city, I want outdoors, I want to have plenty of things to do.

Busan sounds a lot more conservative than Seoul, so I imagine it would be a lot harder for a foreigner to fit in.

In Seoul, there are countless things to do - concerts, sporting events, shopping, festivals, and neighborhoods that offer different things to different people. It's more open-minded than the rest of the country. And if you can't learn Korean fast, there are plenty of foreigners to hang out with. You'l never feel lonely.

Busan. I don't know it well. I've been there once. I though the sea was nice to look at and the rest of the city pretty average. If you like to party, you'll be frustrated because the bars are all spread out around the city. A friend of mine worked in Busan and he thought the locals were less friendly than other parts of Korea. I am told, for sea food fans that Busan has some of the best seafood in Korea. I think, overall, that Busan gets a good rating, but most foreingers seem to prefer Seoul. Yet, if someone offered me a job in Busan, I might take it just for the scenery. I think Busan is better than Jeju because at least you're on the mainland and can jet up to Seoul in 3 hours by KTX.

Busan has wonderful tropical beaches which you can enjoy on the weekends. Didn't the recruiters tell you? Your school is only 45 minutes away. On a hot summer day you can easily cool off in the water, and see many bikini clad ladies basking in the sun.

Busan has some cool bars that have more of a local feel to them....like Cheers where everyone knows your name. Seoul has very little of that. Overall....it depends where you are. Some places in "Seoul" are not very Seoul-like. If you live in the lower realms of Bundang, and want to party in Hongdae, you might not get there as fast as someone who took the KTX from Busan. If I had a choice between somewhere nice in Busan or somewhere way up in Incheon, I might take Busan.

It only takes one hour from Busan to Seoul by KTX?

Even if he were right, there would still be the price to contend with 1000 won by subway from Bundang VS 45,000 won by KTX from Busan (double these prices for the round trip).
