|
|
So I'm a loser and I've already registered for Korean friendfinder before I'm even in Korea. Anyways, I was browsing through some pictures and so many women on there show a picture of themselves making the peace sign.
I've also noticed it on pictures on here of poster's classes. Not that it really matters, but do Koreans think this is cool or something? To me it just looks dumb. |

This is an asian thing. You can't take a picture without making a V with your fingers. |

Before you get bombarded, I wish it was the peace sign, it's V for VICTORY. Interpret how you will, when I thought it was the peace sign I thought, Wow, how Cool is that, a nation of hippies, this should be interesting. |

Hmm, good question, Everyone, Everything, the sign itself has a lot of meanings historically. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_sign
Koreans in general can be slightly "competitive" to be kind, but I take it as a broader symbol of the triumph of the country over it's tumultuous past.
Of course, I just learned something so I'll take it as thousands of Korean girls begging for cunnilingus. THANK YOU Wikipedia, that will make this a very enjoyable weekend. |

interesting theories. whatever the origins, i'd be willing to bet that today the significance doesn't go any deeper than 'that's what you do when someone takes your picture'. |

Wow, I just learned way more than I ever wanted to about it. I wonder how long it took to research that article.
Thanks for the link. |

The 'V' sign meant Victory long before the peaceniks of the sixties got a hold of it.

I always figured it was a rub off from the American soldiers during the war. As a sign of friendliness and victory (although they technically didn't "win" the war) I'm sure they were flashing it about. Korea, being the creative gem that it is, no doubt took hold of it and changed it into the cheesy annoyance that it is today. |

I know I should have used the search feature. Actually I did but I only got a year and a half back. So I just wanted to say I'm terribly sorry and promise to do my research better next time. |

That's okay.
That thread happened to be on my "view your posts" function.
You wouldn't believe how many help-I-have-to-teach-kindergarten posts I've collected. |
