I just submitted my final grades and am wondering how long it will take until I get my first email asking for a change.

For me this was the worst semester I've ever had in the 5.5 years I've been teaching at the university level. Freakin' music students suck.

I'm guessing you're already getting them.
High schoolers do it, too.
"Why'd you give me a 97?"

"Because you did quite well."

They must do this to their Korean teachers, too. And it must work since it's so common.

I have a full-proof way of escaping the whiny (sp?) emails after grades are submitted. I meet all my students in person, one-on-one, and show them their grades, including each individual criterion for grading. They have every chance to challenge their grade in person when I meet them (which they've never done).

Problem solved!
