My notebook won't download updates for WinXP. When I go to the update site I get a message saying I haven't acitvated Windows (which I did 4 years ago when I bought the damn thing...and yes, my notebook is ancient). So, I emailed support and they emailed back with a big "to do" list and I did all that.
Naturally, it still didn't work so I attached some files and sent those off and then I got a wonderful message saying "You haven't contacted us recently so we're closing the case as unresolved". Well, yeah, I guess I handn't contacted them in the LAST FIVE MINUTES. Assholes.
So, I got a new case worker who more or less went through the same process, and then she dumped the case on ANOTHER case worker. I was working with him for a few days and I got that damn "No contact" email again!!!!
Bottom line, when those meat heads can't figure out whether to s**t or go blind, they drop your case and send you a nice little email making it all seem as if it were YOUR fault for not CONTACTING THEM.
Weak. Ass. Mothers.
Heads must roll.
p.s. XP still isn't "activated"... |

You'll have better luck with them if you try to build a personal raport with your service agent; Here's a good opener to get you started:
"So how is the weather in Uttar Pradesh today?" |

I just noticed you have to download a new validation tool. When I bought this laptop I asked for XP Windows English. Silly me figured they'd install a legit version. No such luck. Used to be you could just turn off the validation tool in the ActiveX control panel. But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I dunno, exactly. |

So you've not downloaded a single XP update in 4 years?
If you've still got the original XP and the above is true, I'd be very concerned if I'm using the internet given the amount of exploits that exist in the original XP. Secondly I'd hack the activation on it. I'm not sure how possible it is to crack through it following an SP1 or SP2 installation, but with the original XP it's as easy as pie and you can download from Microsoft until you go blue in the face. |

Actually, you can still get all of the critical updates without the Authentic Validation Tool screwing things up for you, even if your version of windows isn't legit. This is done through Automatic Updates. Just activate this function, and everything will be installed on your computer over a couple of days.
The only the the Validation Tool does is stop you from getting the hardware and addon updates, and accessing Windows Update on the microsoft page.
So, don't fret, it's all good! Just activate Automatic Updates and you'll be fine. |

I've been updating my comp. regularly until last month, when that new activation thing kicked in. The big boner in the ass of whole deal is that I have a goddam LEGIT version of XP!!! I'm gonna ring someone's f**king neck I swear to GAWD.
Anyway, I have Autoupdate activated, so maybe I'm up to speed anyway. |

Why do you download the reactivator program. Its a prog that forces windows to default and causes reactivation. Call them then reactivate. Its easy as pie, I use to do that. |

I bought a new laptop in March and I can't get access to Windows XP. Every time I try to, I have to type in the product key number on the back of a CD and when I do, it always says I typed in an incorrect product key. I can read and I typed the number I saw 4 times and every time, I am told it's the wrong product key number. GEEZ! |

My experience in the States before I moved here was that if you have updated to Service Pack 2 then you absolutely must have a legal activated copy of XP to use the update feature. You can simply call Microsoft to do this. I had an old copy of XP on my desktop that I had activated to the limit and was no longer able to activate it without placing a call to good old Microsoft. |

One cannot "activate Windows to the limit"...it doesn't work like that. It will only get in a knot if you try to activate it too many times on different machines. And it's not I.P. addresses either. |

Ok. If that is the case then why when you try to activate a copy online would you get the message that it was unable to activate due to having exceeded the limit of activation. It was installed on more than one machine yes, but always cleaned before a fresh install to another. I.P adress what??? |

Just call Microsoft. I was just giving examples of prior experiences and possible solutions. Microsoft can handle your problem better than any "wannabe" techno-geek here could. Good Luck! |
