One of the questions from my tests was

Mike likes a girl but is scared to go talk to her. What should he do?

Answers

Student: He needs to calm down. Then he should propose
CLG: Propose? Isn't that fast?
Student: noooo. I propose, always.

Student: He should say 'I want you, I need you, I love you'
CLG: Are you a stalker?
Student: No I am casanova. I many girlfriends.

Student: He should say 'you are almost as beautiful as CLG teacher'
CLG: nice, but no perfect. What would you realllly say?'
Student: I love you.

HAH!

How old is your student?

Sunday I was walking down the beach with a friend. A guy came up to me (probably late 30's early 40's) and said "I LOVE YOU" then pointed to me, then himself, and then both hands on the side of one cheek (sleep?)

I've had really wierd proposals and strange men telling me they love me since I've been here.

I've had lots of girls say they love me. They just dont know the difference betwee, "I like you", and "I love you". I did have one boy, about ten years old, say, "I love you". That was last summer. I think they stopped teasing him in november or so.

The creepy guy pointing at you and himself, saying I love you, knew exactly what he was doing, and he knew he was being ignorant.

wow, clg, sounds like you've got a lively and talented group of students.

i'm afraid of speaking tests. although i'm teaching conversational english, a speaking test is too subjective for me. i'm afraid i wouldn't be impartial enough. and even if i was, i'd worry about some students complaining about their grades and saying i gave better grades to the students i like better.
during midterms this semester there were a few instances of students complaining that some of the professors were biased toward one gender over another. i avoid that by giving multiple choice tests. not perfect, i know, but i figure it's the best option i've got.

well those were the best of the answers. I had a lot of one word answers and they were given a week to prepare for the test.

I grade on an 'achievement based' assesment. Kids who give me full sentences and can make decent answers to the supplement questions I might give get an A. Those who give me a few words about the question get a C.
