Hi everyone,

We have approx 4 weeks of in the said holidays and have decided to visit Japan for most of them.

What we have decided upon is to travel to Fukuoka via the bettle ferry from Busan. After that, other than climbing mt Fuji and visting tokyo we have no idea what to do in the time we are there. While we understand that Japan i VERY costly, we hope to couchsurf alot to set off these cost.

1) Has anyone done this (couchsurfed), how was it, any problems?

2) Based upon other capital cities we have visted we believe a week should be enough to explore tokyo and maybe take some interesting day trips. Is this time okay or should we give it more or less?

3) We think the most obvious way to travel is up. Can we catch a ferry back to South Korea from the 'top' of Japan i.e. not backtrack.

4) Traveling up, and based upon our time what cities/things should (must) we see.

5) While we understand the trains in japan are excellent, they are very expensive. Does Japan have a decent bus network between the major cities? Is it much cheaper?

Sorry for long list of Qs but we want to do this right and any help would be greatly appriated.

Regards

M & N

Hey there,

I just got back from Japan. Only got to spend 6 days in that lovely, albeit expesive country.
My one piece of advice would be KYOTO!!!!! Absolutely breathtaking, a must see.
That said, a month in Japan is going to cost you a pretty penny. I spent $1000 in 6 days and I stayed with friends....you might want to re-think an entire month and maybe spend half the month exploring Korea?

Anyway, have fun!

I've just got back from Toyko and a money saving tip is to use PC rooms instead of hotels.

In Japanese PC rooms you get your own room with a sofa and can spend the night there for about 1200 yen. They provide a shower and of course a computer.
