The Times covered a story today about low level disturbances at the World Cup involving England fans. Guess who has been seen in Frankfurt offering fans a crisp 50 euro note to lug a bottle for the camera?

"There had been some bottle-throwing in Frankfurt, where England played Paraguay, but that had been stirred up in part by a Korean television crew who offered fans 50 euro notes (34) to throw missiles." (The Times, 21.06.06)

Quality korean journalism as ever....

They're so behind the times.... the English media was doing this back in 1998 and 2000!

Maybe I've missed it all, but it's been rather quiet on the hooligan front, hasn't it?

I'm guessing they're all holding off for the time being, and praying for an England-Germany final in Berlin. Then you might see something!

American TV crews were notorious for doing this in Northern Ireland. They'd go to Belfast looking for total anarchy, only to find that the whole place was NOT on fire. Several individuals were arrested for inciting trouble (sometimes with cash) in order to get a good pic!

I rarely trust the screen media. It's thumbnail reporting and all too often sensationalist. Not surprised at all that Koreans were involved in this incident.

One question: Can someone explain to me how the Korea Heralds 'news' is always a day late? Has anyone ever heard of another newspaper, anywhere, which reports Monday's news on Wednesday?

Okay, I'm done.

Simple. Both the Herald and Times simply offer English translations of Korean articles that appeared in Korean newspapers under common ownership with the Herald or Times.

Then there's the fact that the majority of those articles (at least, the ones not dealing with domestic news) are Korean translations of English-language news service articles.

So, you have the original Reuters article on Monday.

The Korean translation of that article comes out in the Korean paper on Tuesday.

Then Tuesday's article is translated back into English where it appears in the Korea Herald on Wednesday.

I can't find the article on the Korea Times website - anyone have the link?

Another classic case of conspiring to recruit agent provocateurs.

All with the aim of furthering one's so-to-speak "agenda".

I think Korea wanted to win the best fans award again and wanted to sabotage the competition. Those cunning Koreans. Wink
