Hi everyone,
I have a question about travel clinics...does anyone know of a good clinic that specialises in giving injections and medication for the purpose of travel? Preferably in the Busan/Ulsan area? I'm planning on heading to SE Asia in a few weeks for a few months and need to get all my vaccinations and the like sorted. Also, where can I get hold of Malarone? Do I have to get a prescription or is it available over the counter?
Would be grateful for any info!

Start your Hep A & Hep B NOW. They require 2 or 3 shots (depending on serum type) that are 3-6 months apart. Get your typhoid and cholera shots now as well. They also require boosters in about 6 months. You should also have your Japanese encephalitis shot BEFORE you head out.
Any major hospital here can take care of your boosters or prescribe your malarial meds and point you to a pharmacy that will have them in stock.

Thanks for the answer. I'm just in the process of working out which shots I need and which I'm already covered for.
Has anyone had any experience with getting such shots and malaria meds in Korea?
Is it relatively straight-forward?
Thank you |

It is easy... just walk into a hospital and ask.
Pretty standard stuff. You may want to bring an interpreter with you do deal with the front desk. The clerk there probably won't speak English.
Most doctors speak and understand enough English to deal with this. You're not asking for a complex diagnosis, just immunization shots.
Look for the GREEN cross on the outside of the building or on the roof.
RED crosses are churches... |

I am in the early stages of preparing for an around the world trip for in about 4 years from now.
In the meantime I will be taking bi-annual vacations throughout east and southeast Asia.
With all that said would you recommend I start getting my shots now? Or should I wait till later before I start doing my serious traveling. |

You should get your Hep A and Hep B shots now. The series take more than 6 months to complete for full immunity.
You should also have your Japanese encephalitis BEFORE you travel.
Typhoid and colera require regular booster shots so they can wait until ab out 3 months before you are ready to travel.
Other shots include the standard MMR and DPT if you haven't had them already. |
